An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver desk standish; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver desk standish has an oval, serpentine shaped form. The swept surface of this desk standish is plain and embellished with the contemporary engraved inscription 'Presented to James Lockyer, Esquire as a memorial of his Architectural skill in the much admired alterations plannd and completed by him in Limpsfield Parish Church which difficult service MR Lockyer with unusual liberality gratuitously performed. James Haldane Stewart, Rector of Limpsfield, Surrey'. This silver Victorian inkstand is ornamented with an impressive, applied scrolling leaf decorated border to the shaped rim, incorporating a vacant cartouche to the anterior edge in addition to large leaf designs to either end. This antique hallmarked silver standish is supported by four impressive bracket style feet embellished with embossed scrolling leaf decoration. The Stand has three cylindrical receivers to accommodate the two inkpots in addition to a central hallmarked receptacle; the receivers secure to the underside with a screw fitment. The wasited shaped central receptacle is surmounted with the original hallmarked sterling silver chamber candlestick. The candlestick has a shaped circular form with a sunken well surmounted with a bell shaped capital. The shaped rims of the drip pan and original hallmarked sconce are encircled with impressive scrolling leaf decorated borders. The chamberstick is fitted with the original leaf decorated conical snuffer, conjoined to the leaf decorated fingerpiece with the original chain. The two original panelled, baluster shaped glass ink pots retain the original hallmarked sterling silver collars. Each ink pot is fitted with the original hallmarked push fit circular shaped cover embellished with a border reflecting that of the candlestick. Condition This silver Victorian inkstand is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The embossed and applied decoration is all very sharp The ink bottles are in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the inkstand, surface of the glass bottle mounts and candlestick, in addition to the part hallmarks to the sconce and snuffer, are all very clear .
