Eze, France Mediterranean Landscape oil painting

Eze, France Mediterranean Landscape oil painting

Located in Wilton Manors, FL

Robert Padilla (b.1947) Eze, France Landscape, 1985. Oil on linen canvas, 8.75 x 10 inches. Signed and dated lower left. Unframed. Robert Padilla was born in 1947 in Paris, France, and was shuttled in and out of foster homes and orphanages, which played a factor in him turning his paintbrush on those who had been discarded – out-of-sight-out-of-mind. Searching for a place to call home, Padilla enlisted in the French military in his early 20’s before coming to the United States in 1976. With a job already lined up when he arrived, Padilla worked at a ritzy hair salon located on Madison Avenue and 72nd Street in New York City and was doing well for himself. While roaming and exploring the streets of New York City and becoming entrenched in his surroundings, Padilla discovered another creative outlet. “I started painting, drawing and developing my technique,” he said. “It took me about a year to create a painting that meant something, and it was a turning point. He also saw creating art as his “calling,” once he discovered “Thompson Park, the underground capital of homelessness in New York,” he said. Padilla found in their faces that human emotion, the same cloak of despair that he at times felt. He also saw creating art as his “calling,” once he discovered “Thompson Park, the underground capital of homelessness in New York,” he said. Padilla found in their faces that human emotion, the same cloak of despair that he at times felt. As an artist, he was validating their existence. They posed for him as models and he expressed seeing a tenderness in their eyes that he connected with. Their faces have been positioned just so on the walls of Detour Gallery in great anticipation of the opening of their show, for all to see and for them to be admired, acknowledged and invited in as part of the human family. “His work is about real people,” said artist, Julia Rivera...

Paintings for Sale: Shop Abstract Paintings, Landscape Paintings, Still-Life Paintings and Other Fine Art on 1stDibs

Painting is an art form that has spanned innumerable cultures, with artists using the medium to tell stories, explore and communicate ideas and express themselves. To bring abstract paintings, landscape paintings, still-life paintings and other original paintings into your home is to celebrate and share in the long tradition of this discipline.

When we look at paintings, particularly those that originated in the past, we learn about history, other cultures and countries of the world. Like every other work of art, paintings — whether they are contemporary creations or works that were made during the 19th century — can often help us clearly see and understand the world around us in a meaningful and interesting way.

Cave walls were the canvases for what were arguably the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict natural scenery through art. Portrait paintings and drawings, which, along with sculpture, were how someone’s appearance was recorded prior to the advent of photography, are at least as old as Ancient Egypt. In the Netherlands, landscapes were a major theme for painters as early as the 1500s. Later, artists in Greece, Rome and elsewhere created vast wall paintings to decorate stately homes, churches and tombs.

Today, creating a wall of art is a wonderful way to enhance your space, showcase beautiful pieces and tie an interior design together.

No matter your preference, whether you favor Post-Impressionist paintings, animal paintings, Surrealism, Pop art or another movement or specific period, arranging art on a blank wall allows you to evoke emotions in a room while also showing off your tastes and interests. A symmetrical wall arrangement may comprise a grid of four to six pieces or, for an odd number of works, a horizontal row. Asymmetrical arrangements, which may be small clusters of art or large, salon-style gallery walls, have a more collected and eclectic feel.

Download the 1stDibs app, which includes a handy “View on Wall” feature that allows you to see how a particular artwork will look on a particular wall, and read about how to arrange wall art. And if you’re searching for the perfect palette for your interior design project, what better place to turn than to the art world’s masters of color?

On 1stDibs, you’ll find an expansive collection of paintings and other fine art for your home or office. Browse abstract paintings, portrait paintings, paintings by emerging artists and more today.

Questions About Paintings

  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 23, 2024
To identify a painting online, you can first try to use the app Smartify. Once you've downloaded the app, snap a photo of the artist's signature. The app will then search through its database and determine the artist. From there, you can use trusted online resources to learn more about the artist, your painting's name and facts about its history. Alternatively, you can photograph the painting and conduct a reverse image search of the whole image or the artist's signature to begin your research. For assistance with identification, seek the help of a certified appraiser or experienced art dealer. On 1stDibs, explore a wide variety of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 9, 2024
To find out how much your painting is worth, you can try looking at auctions and online sales histories to see how much pieces made by the artist have sold for in the past. If you're unsure who the artist is, snap a photo of the signature with the Smartify mobile app to find out who produced it. Because the condition, size and other aspects of a painting can also impact its value, having a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer evaluate your piece is often a good idea. Find a diverse assortment of paintings on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 15, 2024
To find out if your painting is worth anything, you can first do some research online using trusted resources. Look to see how much other pieces by the artist have sold for in the past to get a rough idea of the value of your artwork. Because condition also contributes to valuation, it is a good idea to have a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer evaluate your piece as well. On 1stDibs, explore a wide range of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertMay 30, 2024
Technically, you can put a canvas painting in a glass frame. However, many experts advise against it. Paintings executed on canvas typically do not need the protection of glass, and a glass front on a frame can actually make it more difficult to admire the brushwork and fine details of a piece. On 1stDibs, explore a diverse assortment of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 29, 2024
To tell if an old painting is a print, use a magnifying glass to look at its surface up close. A real painting will have visible brushstrokes left behind by the artist. A print will usually have a smooth surface and may look like it's made up of tiny dots, depending on the printing process used to produce it. If you're still unsure about your piece, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer can assist you. Explore a collection of paintings on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 20, 2024
To tell if a painting is an original or a copy, research the artist and their work using trusted online resources. Specifically, learn about the brushstrokes that the artist commonly used and then examine your piece for evidence of these techniques. You can also compare the signature on your painting to the ones found in online images. Because it can be difficult to authenticate art without experience and training, you may wish to enlist the help of a certified appraiser or art dealer. On 1stDibs, find a wide variety of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 20, 2024
There are two main ways to know if your old painting is worth money. First, you can conduct online research using trusted resources to determine how much similar paintings by the artist have sold for in the past. If you're unsure who the artist is, try the app Smartify, which provides identifications using artists' signatures. A second option is to have a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer evaluate your piece. On 1stDibs, shop a wide range of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 21, 2024

How much a Bob Ross painting is worth depends on its condition, history and other characteristics. In 2023, his painting A Walk in the Woods sold for more than $9 million at an auction. The painting was significant because it was the first one Ross ever produced on his beloved television series, The Joy of Painting, which ran from 1983 to 1994. Ross is best known for his landscapes, which often featured what he described as "happy little trees." If you own a Ross painting, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer can help you with valuation. Shop a wide range of paintings on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 9, 2024
How much a James Gibson painting is worth depends on its age, size, conditions and other characteristics. In 2022, his painting South Fork sold for $12,000 at auction, a record for the American artist. The piece reflects Gibson's interest in portraying the natural landscapes of his native Florida. Gibson is well-known for being one of the Florida Highwaymen, a group of Black artists who sold their artwork directly to buyers on the road during the 1950s and ’60s when segregation laws prevented them from showing their works in galleries. If you own a James Gibson painting, a certified appraiser or experienced art dealer can assist you with the valuation process. On 1stDibs, find a variety of art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 9, 2024

In 2022, his Composition No. II sold for $51 million, establishing a new auction record for the Dutch painter's work. The painting is an example of the colorful geometric compositions that made Mondrian an acclaimed artist. These works helped to define the De Stijl movement, a Dutch abstract art movement that emerged during the early 20th century. If you own a Mondrian, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer can help you with the valuation process. On 1stDibs, explore a wide variety of paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 8, 2024
Caravaggio is most known for his work as an artist. During the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the Italian painter shocked viewers with his dramatic portrayals of familiar historical subjects and everyday people engaging in their daily activities. His work was highly influential due to his use of light and dark, which added tension and gave his work a theatrical quality. Some of Caravaggio's most famous paintings include Young Sick Bacchus, Medusa, The Musicians, The Conversion of Saint Paul, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist and The Entombment of Christ. On 1stDibs, shop a large selection of fine art paintings.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 8, 2024
Several artists painted in the Vatican. Raphael decorated four walls of the Apostolic Palace with murals depicting biblical scenes, including the transfiguration of Christ. Michelangelo is well-known for painting the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, located in the Vatican. Other painters whose work is found within the buildings in Vatican City include Caravaggio, Perugino, Jan Matejko and Gentile da Fabriano. On 1stDibs, find a selection of fine art from some of the world's top galleries and dealers.

Yes, paintings by unknown artists may be worth something in some cases. When a painting’s maker isn't a well-known artist or is completely anonymous, factors like the visual appeal, historical significance, previous ownership and condition will determine the value of a painting. A certified appraiser or experienced art dealer can evaluate your piece using these criteria and provide you with an estimated value for your art. Shop a wide range of paintings on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 20, 2024
How much a Souza painting is worth depends on its condition, history and other variables. In 2024, The Lovers by Francis Newton Souza brought in $4.89 million, a record-breaking auction price for the artist's work. Yes, a signed painting is often worth more. A signature is one way authenticators determine whether a piece of art is genuine or a reproduction. As a result, paintings that bear an original signature may fetch more than those that do not at auctions. However, some artists never or rarely signed their work, such as Mark Rothko and Vincent van Gogh. To get an estimated fair market value for a signed painting that you own, consult a certified appraiser or experienced art dealer. Find a large selection of paintings on 1stDibs.

It is difficult to estimate exactly how much Guernica is worth. The painting by Pablo Picasso is a part of the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain, and is unlikely ever to be auctioned. However, experts do estimate that the painting may be worth at least $200 million. Shop a large selection of paintings on 1stDibs.
