Miles Bair Art
Miles Bair was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He studied art at Edinboro University and West Virginia University and is the director of the School of Art at Illinois Wesleyan University. Bair has been a visiting artist at several major American universities and the Tama Art University and Oberlin University in Tokyo, Japan. The brush handling technique Bair uses is not pointillism; instead, the deliberate and considerate placement of the thousands of dots that compose his visions provide a rich contrast to the black underpainting and the ethereal, shimmering metallic leaf. Although the influence of Japanese artistic tradition is evident in his work, the Northern Wisconsin landscape informs his work most intimately. Bair has exhibited widely, including Quincy Art Center in Illinois, University of Wisconsin-Madison, McLean County Arts Center in Bloomington, Illinois, Carole Jones Gallery in Chicago and many more institutions and galleries nationally as well as internationally.
