French Porcelain Mantel clock by Raingo Freres, Paris French porcelain mantel clock housed in an arch top case with raised stepped plinth and resting on scroll feet. Outstanding hand painted panel to the front with gilt surround depicting two maidens attending a fatally wounded knight. Beautifully decorated to all sides with flowers, birds and butterfly on a white ground with gilt decorative border to the plinth. Chased gilded bezel, silvered dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel Moonpoise hands signed Raingo Fres, a Paris. French eight day movement with silk suspension, anchor escapement and outside countwheel, striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell. The backplate signed Raingo Fres, a Paris and numbered 301. C.1850 Raingo Freres worked from Rue Vielle Du Temple c.1829, also from Rue De Saintonge between 1840 to 1850. The company continued trading in Paris until the early 1900’s. A very smart and stylish antique French Charles X period mantel clock in ormolu and patinated bronze with original ormolu throughout and surmounted by a fine ormolu urn on a stepped base. The clock signed on the dial "Mallet Hr. de Mg le Duc d'Orleans". The clock is set on decorated ormolu block feet and is constructed of patinated bronze with ormolu mouldings and applied ormolu mounts. A fine ormolu moulding is above the base and above this is a fine mount of a lyre surrounded by volumes of book and laurel. This mantel clock is a wonderful piece of French Neoclassical design. It is an unusual and very beautiful item, which has been expertly crafted from gilt bronze (ormolu). The clock will add elegance and sophistication to a mantelpiece. The clock features a table-form body which is topped by a classical urn. The urn is crowned by a pomegranate finial and mounted with twin handles in the shape of rams’ heads with rings in their mouths. The urn is decorated with twisted and cabled fluting, a belt draped with foliate swags, panelled motifs and a ropework band. The urn stands on a table-shaped body which is surmounted by outward-pointing pinecone finials and laurel branches. The stepped tabletop has scalloped corners and is decorated with an egg-and-dart and leaf-and-dart band, as well as a central Green Man mask.
