Set of 5 Circa 1900 Blue and White Delft Vases from Holland

A beautiful set of five blue and white Delft vases, this faience collection was hand-painted in Holland, circa 1900. The three bulbous vases are lidded, each with a finial depicting a rampant lion with a ball in its forepaws. Beneath the lion is a mottled background (on the front side only), with a foliate and floral margent. Each vase has the same scene painted on the front of the main body: a couple walking through a field surrounded by flowers. The opposite side has a floral rinceaux above a foliate branch. Painted in a similar fashion, the two concave vases are without lids. The side opposite from the cartouche of the couple has floral margents. All five vases have canted corners on the base.

This antique majolica planter was sculpted in Montigny sur Loing, France, circa 1860. Tall and oval in shape, the ceramic jardinière stands on a flat rectangular base; it features colorful hand painted floral motifs in high relief on a brown background. The elegant barbotine vase is in excellent condition with rich patinated colors in the pale green, yellow, beige and pink palette.
Impressionist ceramics term generally applies to "paint the slip" or "batch gouache". At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the towns of Montigny-sur-Loing and Marlotte are many artists living places like Jean-Baptiste Corot, Eugène Thirion (1839-1910), Adrien Schulz (1851-1931), Numa Gillet (1868-1940) and Lucien Cahen-Michel (1888-1980), all attracted by the quality of the landscape and the light. When Eugene Schopin founded in 1872 a ceramics factory, he worked with the painters to create a range of designs inspired by Impressionism and decorated according to new public demands. Andrea Salvatori (Italy, 1975) is an internationally renowned visual artist working with the ceramic medium to realize often ironic and witty sculptures, sometimes involving a diverse selection of found objects, such as Murano glass vases, Meissen Porcelain miniatures or Ginori period ceramics sourced in flea markets around Europe. Salvatori’s works often begin with these items and proceed by the addition of elements masterfully created by the artist, generating an unexpected semantic shift. The result is unique, encompassing pop culture and kitsch aesthetics: a witty and effective way to turn reality upside-down and at the same time a powerful combination of exquisite craftsmanship and genuine irony.
Andrea Salvatori was born on 3 of March 1975 in Faenza (Ra), Italy; he has graduated at the Istituto d’arte for Ceramic in Faenza in 1995, and he then graduated with a Degree in Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Bologna in 2000. During his studies, Andrea learned the secrets of ceramics from the creative duo Bertozzi & Casoni having worked as an apprentice in their studio for many years at the same way as during Renaissance artists learned their practice with their Masters. Since 1997 he had several individual and collective exhibitions. In 2009 he won the first prize at the 56th edition of the prestigious Premio Faenza, the International Contest of Contemporary Art Ceramics, for which he classified second in the prior edition. Vintage Moroccan Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles

Moroccan Tamgroute vintage, 1960's green olive jar with handles, or planter.
Handcrafted by the Berber people in Tamgroute Morocco.
Great glazed earthenware with different hues of green and black.
A pair is available, slightly different glaze
Top diameter is 10" inside opening is 7" D.
Jar is 38" H x 20" D in the widest part.
Wonderful green and brown shimmering that can be found only in south Morocco in the village of Tamgroute.
The color and texture is a result of the particular alchemy created by the potters of Tamegroute and remains a family affair handed down through the generations.
Each pottery piece is completely unique and no two are ever the same.
Please note that the traditional method in which the plates are fired involves stacking which result in tiny ‘scars’ inside the plate and in the glaze making, each bowl is unique the beauty is found in the imperfection of each piece.
Tamegroute pottery are true showpieces showing that even imperfect can be perfect.
Tamegroute remains the only rural pottery in Morocco using oxidized copper which creates its famous green color.
Its potteries are also the only location where you will find their unique forms.
The process however remains much the same. Clay is dug up from the local Draa river banks, thrown by hand & fired inkilns built into steep slopes using a single firing.
