An early 20th century sculptural table lamp, hand-carved in wood, retaining its rare original tiered pagoda lampshade with printed textile and original fringe. A highly characterful and authentic piece with visible patina consistent with age. This early 20th century table lamp is distinguished by its sculptural presence and refined craftsmanship. The carved wooden base shows careful handwork and strong three-dimensional modelling, giving the lamp an almost architectural quality. The surface retains its original patina, enhancing the depth and character of the carving and confirming the lamp’s age and authenticity. The lamp is complemented by its original tiered pagoda lampshade, an increasingly rare survival. Constructed in multiple stepped layers, the shade is covered in printed textile decorated with stylized floral motifs. The layered silhouette creates a warm, atmospheric diffusion of light and adds a strong decorative rhythm to the overall composition. The shade is finished with its original fringe, which further emphasizes the sculptural outline when illuminated. Top class chandelier with an extra large, hand carved alabaster shade. Thanks to its extra large size and great condition this alabaster chandelier is one of the best alabaster chandeliers that we have ever seen or sold. This antique and entirely hand-carved alabaster chandelier will light up your days and evenings in a way that no modern fixture ever could. Anyone who has ever seen one in real life knows exactly what we are talking about. For this stunning, four light specimen they clearly used the perfect alabaster rock, because this unique shade comes with numerous and evenly divided black veins. That combined with the whiter veins and patches that have formed in this mineral stone over a period of thousands of years makes it truly special. We have several interior designer clients who are looking for these largest of alabaster chandeliers and they know that finding one over 25 inches in diameter is like the proverbial needle in the haystack. This not only is one of the largest (in diameter) antique alabaster pendants that we have ever had the pleasure of offering, it also is one of the deepest/highest. However, what takes this rare size chandelier to a level of its own are the scrolling leaf and flower patterns that are deeply and sharply hand carved all around the body. This level of workmanship was rare, even in the early 1900s and since this light would have cost a small fortune in those days, you can rest assure that only the best artisan would have been allowed to do these (exceptional) carvings. The original rope hanging to this monumental chandelier was 'shot' and we replaced it with bronzed chain that perfectly complements the entire look and feel of this majestic pendant. Combined with the large, original and height adjustable alabaster canopy this rare light can be used and enjoyed in all kinds of interiors and in all kinds of living spaces. For it to still be in this very good condition after more than 100 years is like an ode to the craftsmanship of early 1900 artisans in Europe. We could shoot many more photos, but you still would not be able to see the true beauty of this chandelier in general and the one of a kind, supersize shade in particular. We have sold many antique alabaster pendant lights, but as far as we can remember we have never found an antique pair of alabaster wall sconces. These rare, all-handcrafted and handsome lights come with detailed and stunning, gilt bronze ram's head sculptures on either side and a grape-bunch finial at the bottom. These elements ofcourse all have a deeper, symbolic meaning to them which also makes these lights great conversation pieces.
