A fine Chinese blue and white porcelain lobed dish from the Kangxi period (1662–1722), probably made circa 1700–1720 in Jingdezhen for export. The centre is painted with a gnarled tree bearing clusters of peonies, a lily and a flowering branch behind a garden fence with capped posts, all in the characteristic layered Kangxi cobalt blue. Design The moulded, lobed rim is decorated with reserved flower panels alternating with narrow panels, in the tradition of kraak porcelain. The reverse is painted with flowering branches, and the base carries a stylised flower mark within a double circle. The painting is lively and detailed, a good example of Chinese export porcelain from the heyday of blue and white, when such pieces were highly sought after in the Netherlands. Condition Good condition. No hairline cracks or restorations visible. A few minute frits to the rim, small irregularities to the foot rim and kiln grit, some iron spots and a light discolouration on the left side of the centre. Please see the photos for details. Dimensions: diameter 21.5 cm, height approx. 3 cm In the interior Timeless in a classic or Dutch interior, and a striking contrast in a modern space. Lovely on a plate rack, in a display cabinet or hung on the wall. A second, comparable Kangxi dish...
