Robert Bushong Silkscreen Wall Scroll Chanticleer for Tom Tru Raymor MCM

Located in Topeka, KS

Wonderful Mid-Century Modern silkscreen wall scroll titled Chanticleer by Robert R. Bushong for Tom Tru and distributed by Raymor. It is in fantastic vintage condition and circa 1959. I’ve recently become attracted to roosters and chickens in general, and these regal characters are really great! This wall-hanging is depicted in the Tom Tru Spring wall scroll catalog for 1959. Attributed to Robert R. Bushong, although the signature on this one is missing the G. Since the signature is so close to the edge we believe the G just did not make it into the screen printing process. This example is what was advertised in the catalog as: powder, royal, sage, brown on black texture. Otherwise known as powder blue, royal blue, sage green, and brown. Its solid walnut top and bottom mouldings are just beautiful as are these fantastic chanticleer, the name for roosters especially in fairy tales. Robert Bushong...

Large 18th Century Dutch Oil on Canvas Painting of a Southern Landscape, 56x67

Large 18th Century Dutch Oil on Canvas Painting of a Southern Landscape, 56x67

Located in Dallas, TX

Measuring 56 H x 67 W, this large Dutch oil on canvas painting from the 1700s depicts a Southern landscape of a glen beneath a rocky cliff. The expansive valley stretches far into the distance, before terminating at a lake in front of a mountain. Numerous flocks of sheep can be seen throughout the basin, including a group high up on the towering cliff with green trees dotting the sand-colored rock. Most of the flocks in the distance are being tended to by shepherds, but interestingly, a group of four men has gathered in the foreground to engage in leisurely activities as their sheep, cows, goat, and dog await nearby. A few chateaus can be seen in the distance, but most of the architecture is in the style of a capriccio, in that they are dilapidated. The top of a stone obelisk is missing and there are some losses to the inscribed pedestal next to it that supports a lidded urn. Large pieces of broken rock are scattered about, with one slab being used as a seat/table for two shepherds playing cards. Several birds fly in the blue sky, with the setting sun giving the clouds hues of gray, orange, and pink. The peaceful scene is surrounded by a brown wood frame with a thin undulating gilt border that edges the canvas. Our large Dutch painting...

Two pre-Columbian textile fragments presented in wood frames. Handwoven in colored yarn, possibly camelid fibers, these pieces were from Inca period circa 15-16th century. It has a multi-panel design with eight-point stars alternating with stylized animal and homomorphic figures, steps-design and abstract scrolling patterns. The second one features a multiple stripe design also with eight-point star and a mysterious figure sandwiched between stripes of geometrical patterns and plain borders. It is a wonder to behold antiquities such as a pre-Columbian textiles, an authentic piece of art that has been preserved for centuries and that survives generation after generation. Textiles are infinitely more delicate than wood, metal, or rock artifacts - so the existence of these pieces after hundreds and thousands of years is exceptional. These textiles maintain their vibrant colors, natural threads, and their unique, historical designs.
