New Beauvais French Style Wool Tapestry, 05'00 X 06'07
By Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, Beauvais Royal Manufactory
Located in Dallas, TX
73699 Beauvais French Style Tapestry, The Collation the Story of the Emperor of China 05'00 x 06'07. This handwoven wool French Style tapestry is a reproduction of the Beauvais Tapestry from: The Collation The Story of the Emperor of China. Reproduced as a European representation of the Emperor of China, K’ang Xi who reigned from 1661-1721. This Beauvais French Style Tapestry is a replication after cartoons by Guy-Louis Vernansal, Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, and Jean-Baptiste Belin de Fontenay, about 1697 - 1705. The tapestry depicts a scene of the Chinese emperor and empress enjoying a meal. They are surrounded by attendants and seated at a round table before a tiled pavilion. While the imperial couple are served tea and fruit, a servant reaches up behind them to remove a platter from a buffet of golden dishes and blue-and-white porcelain vases arranged in the European fashion. Seated on a stool to the left, a female musician with a monkey at her feet plays a stringed instrument resembling a sitar. In the center, a dwarf dances...

Handwoven Wool Rug / Kilim, Grey & Jewel Tone, Natural Dye, by Andrew Boos
Located in Brooklyn, NY
This rug is a one of a kind heirloom piece. Inspired by light and movement, the asymmetrical design is meant to enhance the flow of any space. With references to both Art Deco and contemporary design elements, this piece will stand out as an addition to any interior space. Andrew Boos seeks to redefine what a rug is. His work is not meant to be the static anchor of a room, rather it is a new architectural element. As usable art, his rugs encourage the flow of movement through a space. They redirect the focus from 2d static wall decorations to an element that creates an immersive environment. His rugs become a focal point, and invite you to enter and experience the space in a way that traditional rugs cannot. The entire process of creating this rug was done in the artist's Brooklyn studio. From dying the yarn, to weaving and finishing the piece. No part of the process is outsourced. Each work produced by the artist is a bespoke heirloom piece. The rug is woven with traditional Kilim techniques, using interlocking yarn to add strength and stability and is strong enough to withstand daily traffic. As a handmade piece this rug may include minor imperfections and variations, representing the true nature of the natural materials and techniques. The back of the rug has been finished so the piece may be reversed. Each color included in this rug was hand-dyed by the artist using natural dyes to achieve the subtle variety in tones. The greys were created using logwood, tannin and iron. The plum and magenta shades of purple were created with cochineal, a small insect native to Mexico. Cochineal has been an integral part of many traditional fiber arts...

Small Square #7 by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari
Located in Pireaus-Athens, Greece
Taher Asad-Bakhtiari (b. 1982, Tehran) is a self - taught artist whose approach focuses on experimentations on objects and textiles to create and reinvent techniques and uses. He has developed several bodies of work including The Tribal Weave Project that breaks hundreds of years of weaving traditions. He re-created pieces that take on new functions as wall partitions, wall coverings, furniture spreads, challenging in their sweep the orthodox notion that “kilims and gabbehs are for the floor.” His work has been shown in several international exhibitions, including the Met (New York), Carwan Gallery (Beirut), Wallpaper Middle East Revealed, Qattan Foundation (London), and Katara Art Centre (Doha). Woven by semi-nomadic tribal women using entirely natur ally-dyed, hand-spun wool, each piece can require up to four months to create, depending on size. Unlike the traditional Iranian carpet...

Vintage Moroccan Blue Kilim Rug with Geometric Border and Two Diamond Lozenges
Located in Morristown, NJ
Antique early 20th century Moroccan Kilim rug, with two central diamond medallions, made in simple flat-woven or tapestry technique, in which the pattern is produced by horizontal wefts that cover the vertical warps. The ground is a denim blue color with browns, greens, beiges, pinks and blues woven into the border decoration and diamond medallions. The desire for the ‘exotic’ rug family in Western culture played no small part in the entrance of Moroccan style to the world stage and the gradual western influence on the style we see today. Given their thinner, supple structure, Kilim rugs are usable not only as decorative floor covering, but also as wall hangings and on furniture or bed coverlets...
