Life's Little Palette: Serving Pop, Wit, and a Splash of Attitude, Framed

By Nelson De La Nuez

Located in Los Angeles, CA

As one of the world’s most collected, significant pop artists today, Nelson De La Nuez is a born iconoclast. Using his unique juxtaposition of pop culture and surrealism, blended with America’s rich culture and history, De La Nuez has created works of art that are considered timeless. Listed on the “Who’s Who List of the Most Collected Artists of Our Time,” his works are original, bold and outspoken. The artist is known for his distinctive, trademarked style called “Art on the Edge,” which is creating art on all sides of the canvas. This one-of-a-kind 56 inch high by 43 inch wide original artwork is a mixed media composition on paper. This artwork is signed by the artist on the front. This artwork is framed in a modern white wood frame. Size and price include frame. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Nelson De La Nuez was born in 1959 in Havana, Cuba, and came to the United States at age seven. He was raised in California. De La Nuez studied Art History at Boston University where he was inspired by the French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist periods. Though his paintings are clearly Pop Art, the subtle humor of artists like Edouard Manet and Pablo Picasso echo throughout his playful work. De La Nuez’s work hangs in some of the most prominent private collections of movie stars, directors, producers, comedians, and corporations. His work has been purchased by Sotheby’s for future auctions and his works sell out consistently at major international shows and fairs. Nelson De La Nuez tries to create a new generation of art lovers, drawing upon icons and art history to entice younger minds, in turn provoking the interest of the generation above them. The L.A. Times called De La Nuez “the comedic da Vinci of our times.” His ability to use non-related images to achieve a whole new and stimulating outlook on life has brought him many awards and published features. The artist continues to challenge himself to incorporate new and exciting ideas into his art and his style. He believes he is a success if his art inspires people to think beyond the norm. Moxie Step It

Moxie Step It

By Dan Corbin

Located in Napa, CA

bauxite, sheet metals, shale, oxides, acrylic paints Dan Corbin's sculptures are a convergence of conceptualism and the human figure, illuminating what it feels like to be alive during current times, with all its beauty, complexity, contradictions, and possibilities. The artist’s sculptures address issues of contemporary society - materialism, industrialization and cultural change - while simultaneously referring to a wide range of human emotions. His sculptures lift the spirit while questioning what it is to be human. In Corbin’s archetype of man, intellect and soul are separate from the body. Armless, headless, anonymous cores can now be broken down to the smallest units, analyzed, engineered, beautified, and commodified. Corbin’s articulation of figurative sculpture takes iconography of the present and embeds it in the surface of his sculptures. He calls these miniature time capsules ‘inclusions’. Objects like cosmetic bottles, action figures, dolls, and feeder fish are sealed in resin and strategically embedded throughout the body. With these ‘inclusions’ the figure becomes a technologically enhanced vessel. The human body is no longer a container for a perfect being, handed down by god or evolution, but an aesthetically enhanced harbinger of a new era. In combination with the ‘inclusions’ Corbin uses a multitude of industrial materials, emphasizing the intrinsic value and physical properties of each. Each surface becomes fully charged with content, primed for multiple interpretations. Dan Corbin has been included in notable exhibitions at galleries and institutions including the Museum of Northern California Art...

This piece is from a new body of work called 'Vital Signs’ which will premiere at Ivy Brown Gallery in NYC springs from the domain of hospitals and illness through combinations of hand-woven and tufted textiles and minimalist box-like objects that hang on walls or embed in the textiles themselves. The textiles refer to items of worn clothing, flattened identity, and superstition that come with illness and extended hospital stays. Their dominant color is blue, a hue known to calm the nervous system, but also the color of a failing body (cyanosis). The black and white objects...

Mexican artist Heny Steinberg’s abstracted landscapes invite us to travel from the map to the localized event. The shapes within Steinberg’s work transcend two dimensional representation and have meaning beyond visual appearance. Her process begins with concrete images and references, yet over time give way to her process. Her abstractions fluctuate between representation and abstraction of variables.. Her works are reminiscent of American Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler but also have a clear Mexican Cubist...

"Lucky Number Pink" Original Colorful Skull Martini Bones Dice Pop Art

By Gary John

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles street artist Gary John exploded onto the international art scene first during Art Basel Miami in 2013. John’s playfully bold work quickly gained attention and he was named one of 20 standout artists at the 2014 NY Affordable Art Fair. His contemporary artworks continue to be exhibited at major international art fairs in the United States, Asia and Europe, including Los Angeles, New York, London, Singapore and Hong Kong. Celebrities and major art collectors worldwide have acquired his timeless artworks, which have seen a significant increase in value. John applied mixed media onto board to create this one-of-a-kind original artwork measuring 28 inches high by 22 inches wide. This mixed media artwork is signed and dated by the artist in the lower left corner using the first two letters of his first and last name "GA JO". This artwork is not framed. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Gary John has been a street artist since 1985. Originally from Seattle, Washington, he moved to Venice Beach, Los Angeles in 2003 and began selling on the Venice boardwalk. After almost 10 years on the boardwalk and experiencing “a bout with homelessness,” he was discovered and his artistic career took off with great success. He references this success in every artwork he makes. Along the left side of the artwork he paints a series of circles joined together by an arrow pointing up. Each circle represents a stepping stone on the path of success that keeps growing to greater heights. On the right side he depicts a line of houses, expressing the joy he finds in the stability of a home. His street artworks have a whimsical yet exciting and bold quality, inspired by classic cartoon and comic book characters rendered with acrylic paint in a bold graffiti style, on newspaper, board or other media. His choice of newspapers reflects the diversity of his Los Angeles surroundings, including Korean language newspapers, which have become equally collected as his artworks on English language newspapers. John cites Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat as his artistic inspiration. Other influences are comic books and American pop culture. His original artworks add a new face to the continuous popularity of pop art. John says...

Shop Mixed Media Paintings and Other Art

Mixed media is a type of art that sees artists using a range of materials or more than one medium. Find a range of mixed media paintings and other artworks for your space today on 1stDibs.

Mixed media is distinct from multimedia, which describes art involving electronic media, including video, computers and digital elements. Artists combine painting, drawing, photography and sculpture for mixed media art. Instead of sticking to one form, they aim to break boundaries and create unique pieces. Pop art is one of the vibrant periods for mixed media art, with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg among its most fabled producers. Rauschenberg, like many mixed media artists, used found objects in his work, from cast-off furniture to newspapers.

Collage is one of the most well-known areas of mixed media. Artists use various types of paper, fabric, photographs and more to create one cohesive work. A type of collage is assemblage, which involves 3D objects.

While artists may use fabric in collage, it can be the very substance of the art itself. Fabric art makes extensive use of texture. Artists may paint or embroider on fabric to create layers of texture and color to evoke a specific feeling. They can also transfer photos onto fabric for innovative ways to display visuals.

Resin-based art has clean, sharp lines and a definitive shape. Resin is a liquid that hardens to a high-gloss surface and is used to seal wood, counters and floors. Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
