Gustave Alaux Paintings
Gustave Alaux was born on August 21, 1887, in Bordeaux; he died on February 27, 1965, in Paris. He was a student of Marcel Baschet and Henri Royer, at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. He exhibited at the French Salon since 1913, and in many others. In 1926, he was appointed the official painter of the Navy; in 1946, he became a member of the Navy Academy. He painted scenes from Navy history, referring to Christopher Columbus, La Fayette, Corsairs, and to the History of French Overseas, also called "Boat Portraits". He had a preference for the 18th century boats.
