John Copland Paintings
John Copland was most interested in mechanics and originally planned a career in marine engineering, but his love of art won through. He traveled extensively throughout the British Isles before settling in Dundrennan — a village in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, about five miles east of Kirkcudbright. John did 40 illustrations for school friend S. R. Crockett. He illustrated J. Maxwell Wood's Smuggling and Witchcraft in Galloway. When he settled in Dundrennan, he photographed, painted and made illustrations of the people and places in the area. John was involved with the Kirkcudbright Artists' Colony.
