Steven Haulenbeek Furniture

Steven Haulenbeek is an American artist and designer based in Chicago. Originally from Kalamazoo, he attended Hope College, Michigan, where he received a bachelor’s degree in drawing and sculpture. Living and working in the Holland/Grand Rapids area, a hotbed of American design and furniture manufacturing became a powerful influence. After graduating from the Masters of Designed Objects program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006, Haulenbeek went on to work as an industrial designer for Atlanta based Formation Design Group and as a furniture designer at Chicago based Holly Hunt Enterprises. He has taught at his alma mater and continues to work out of Chicago today.

In 2010, Haulenbeek founded his independent design practice with interest in experimental, material, and process-based objects for the home. His work passes by the typical design/build format and instead seeks to invent a production framework by which objects emerge more organically. Haulenbeek’s work is showcased in both high end residential and boutique commercial spaces and can be found spanning the pages of publications such as the New York Times and Modern Luxury magazine.
