Table Box Octagonal Light Blue Fired Enamel and Miniature Madame Drouais on Sali

By Salimbeni, Franco Salimbeni

Located in Firenze, FI

Octagonal table box in 925/1000 sterling silver gold plated with translucent fired enamel on guillochè and beautiful hand-painted enamelled miniature by the painter Beatrice Mellana reproducing the portrait of Madame Drouais painted by her husband Francois Hubert in 1785 and conserved in the Louvre Museum. Fine hand-engravings on the sides. French Empire style. Measure cm. 8x8x3.7. Weight gr. 285. Designed by Franco Salimbeni in 1989 and manufactured in Florence in the headquarters of the Salimbeni company with completely manual execution by artisan artists with thick slab and large reinforcements suitable for withstanding numerous eamelled firings at high heat at about 800° C. Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions. It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books. Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items. Hand-painted miniatures can be done with multiple different techniques. The most important that we use on our articles are of three kinds: 1) Fire enamel. 2) Water tempera on an ivory plate. 3) Painted on mother-of-pearl. Fire enameled miniatures: On a first layer of enamel generally white or very clear or even transparent suitably liquefied at a temperature of about 750 ° C, the chosen subject is painted using miniature...

A Rare Pair of Candelabras in "Fat Lava", by Marius Giuge Vallauris - 1960s

By Marius Giuge

Located in MOUGINS, FR

This pair of 37 cm high three-light candelabras features scrolls at the top and base of the shaft, constructed directly as a base in a "water foam" design. The white color of these models is dotted with black alveoli that contrast with the clear enamel. The technique used to achieve this effect was to add chemical compounds to the enamel. Depending on the chosen dosage, this created variations in the size and depth of the craters. This decoration, invented by Marius Giuge, inspired the "Fat Lava" ceramics, very popular in Germany in the late 1960s and 1970s. An iconic example of Marius Giuge's production in the 1960s and 1970s, the pair is signed 3 times under each piece: MARIUS GIUGE – VALLAURIS...

Louis XV Rococo Style Clock and Barometer Set by P. Gravelin

By L. Marti et Cie

Located in London, GB

Louis XV Rococo style clock and barometer set by Gravelin French, Late 19th Century Clock & Barometer: height 77cm, width 32cm, depth 15cm Designed in the Louis XV Rococo style, this very fine clock and barometer set dates to c.1870 and was made by Parisian makers Paul Gravelin & Louis Marti et Cie in the time of the French Belle Époque. The matching cases are cast with scrolling foliate decoration, with intricate, elegant swirling flowers and ribbons, in rocaille form. The dial of the clock is painted with both Arabic and Roman numerals and signed to the centre 'Paul Gravelin,' above the dial, and below: 'Paris, 8 Rue Charlot,' while the square-plate eight-day movement is by Marti, an stamped 'Louis Marti et Cie, Bronze Medaille.' The gilding is of exceptional quality, and demonstrates the prowess of late nineteenth century Parisian craftsmen, who looked to earlier French regal periods for stylistic inspiration yet updated styles, particularly the Rococo, with their own individual flair, as is evident from these fine antique timepieces.
