A Very Fine Pair of Late 19th Century Two Tone Bronze Nine Light Candelabra After Clodion After Clodion Each cast as a female and a male figure from a bacchanale upholding eight scroll branches with a central branch in the form of a quiver, on a bronze mounted circular base of granite. Claude Michael Clodion, [1738-1814], was the son-in-law of sculptor Augustin Pajou; he trained in Paris in the workshops of Lambert Sigisbert Adam, his maternal uncle and Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, the most successful sculptor of the time. After winning the Prix de Rome, he moved to Italy, sharing a studio with Jean-Antoine Houdon and studying antique, Renaissance, and Baroque sculpture. In 1771 Clodion returned to Paris, where he continued to produce mostly in terracotta. He also worked with his brothers in other media, decorating objects...

F. Barbedienne 'The Solider of Marathon' Bronze After J. P. Cortot
By Jean Pierre Cortot, F. Barbedienne Foundry
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
An excellent large late 19th century antique bronze of ‘Le Soldat De Marathon Annoncant La Victoire’, also known as ‘The Soldier of Marathon Announcing the Victory’, cast by Ferdinand Barbedienne after a model by French sculptor, Jean-Pierre Cortot (1787-1843). The Barbedienne foundry produced this model in four editions. This bronze is an example of the second largest. Inscribed ‘Cortot 1834’, it is signed ‘F. Barbedienne Fondeur’ and impressed with the official stamp of the Collas et Barbedienne foundry reading: ‘Reduction Mecanique, A. Collas Brevete’. With its attractive patina and impressive scale, this bronze is a beautiful sculpture for any interior seeking artworks that are particularly exceptional. The Soldier of Marathon Inspiration for this bronze is rooted in ancient Greek mythology. It tells the story of the solider Pheidippides who, following the Greek victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, ran 40km from Marathon to Athens to deliver the triumphant news before collapsing from exhaustion. The story inspires the modern-day marathon run...

Bronze Rooster by Anne Van Kleeck
Located in St.Petersburg, FL
A charming bronze rooster-unique piece by American sculptor Anne Van Kleeck. From the artist's estate. A note about the artist: Anne Van Kleeck was primarily known for her works in cast bronze and ceramics. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A.) and Ohio State University (M.A.) and spent several years as a professor of art in Ohio and Florida. During that stay she employed an Italian foundry expert and together they established a small foundry on the island of Murano where they cast bronzes for her one woman show in Venice. Van Kleecks work has won multiple awards and is owned worldwide by private collectors and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum and MOMA in New York.
