Vintage Mid Century Murano Glass Bowl in Matte Green with Orange Accents

Vintage Mid Century Murano Glass Bowl in Matte Green with Orange Accents

Located in Milano, IT

Many are the different types of glass created by master makers on the Venetian island of Murano. From air-thin vases to expressive sculptures, also massive objects with deep and vivid hues of colour represent the great skills of glassmakers. The present bowl, most certainly made with a hint of uranium in the glass fuse to give it the peculiar greenish tone, is a perfect example of how attractive massive Murano glass can be. It can be dated approximately to the mid 1960s, based on the style and colors of the piece. Unsigned, as most pieces of that era, it shows great craftsmanship, and is preserved in beautiful conditions. No cracks, dents or damages of sort are visible, and just a light patina proves it is actually a 50 years old object.

Empoli Amber Glass Decanter Set, Wayne Husted, Italy, 1950s

By Empoli, Stelvia, Wayne Husted

Located in Valencia, VC

A collection of five Empoli amber glass pieces produced by the Stelvia Glass Workshop in Italy during the 1950s–1960s. Three of the decanters are attributed to designs by American glass artist Wayne Husted, created for the American market. Two examples retain the “Made in Italy” mark often associated with these exports. The group includes four decanters with stoppers and one apothecary or candy jar. All pieces are handmade using the pressed or molded glass technique characteristic of Empoli production, and feature the warm amber tone typical of Stelvia glass from this period. Condition is very good overall. One stopper has a small hairline crack at the base, which is stable and barely visible unless closely examined. Dimensions (tallest to shortest) Decanter: 18.9 in H (48 cm) Decanter: 17.7 in H (45 cm) Candy / apothecary jar: 11.4 in H (29 cm) “Grapes” decanter...

Antique, New and Vintage Vases and Vessels

For thousands of years, vases and vessels have had meaningful functional value in civilizations all over the world. In Ancient Greece, ceramic vessels were used for transporting water and dry goods, holding bouquets of flowers, for storage and more. Outside of utilitarian use, in cities such as Athens, vases were a medium for artistic expressionpottery was a canvas for artists to illustrate their cultures’ unique people, beliefs and more. And pottery skills were handed down from fathers to sons.

Every antique and vintage vase and vessel, from decorative Italian urns to French 19th-century Louis XVI–style lidded vases, carries with it a rich, layered story.

On 1stDibs, there is a vast array of vases and vessels in a variety of colors, sizes and shapes. Our collection features vessels made from delicate materials such as ceramic and glass as well as durable materials like rustproof metals and stone.

A contemporary vase can help introduce an air of elegance to your minimalist space while an antique Chinese jar would make a luxurious addition to an Asian-inspired interior. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a statement piece, consider an Art Deco vase crafted by Italian architect and furniture designer Gio Ponti.

Vases and vessels — be they handmade pots, handblown glass wine bottles or otherwise — are versatile, practical decorative objects, and no matter your particular design preferences, furniture style or color scheme, they can add beauty and warmth to any home. Find yours on 1stDibs today.
