19th Century Eduard Stellmacher for Amphora "Lily of the Valley" Maiden Vase
By Eduard Stellmacher, Amphora
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This late 19th century porcelain vase was designed by Eduard Stellmacher for Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel Amphora of Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia. The piece has a Classic Art Nouveau form and features a dimensional nymph partially encased in the leaves of a lily of the valley plant. The maiden's body is accented by two delicate arched tendrils finished in gilt which bear small white lily of the valley blossoms, also accented in gilt. The remainder of the piece is painted in shades of light green and ochre with gilt highlights. An example of this shape with similar painted decoration can be seen on page 37 of Richard L. Scott's 'Ceramics From The House Of Amphora 1890-1915.' As an antique item, the vase shows appropriate signs of age consisting of wear to the gilded decoration along with a shallow chip on one of the ridged leaves on the back of the piece. The foot is 4" in diameter and bears the red RStK mark reading "RStK TURN Teplitz...

Iridescent Loetz Glass Vase with Flower Opening, 1940s
By Loetz Glass
Located in Milano, MI
Vase in Austrian iridescent Loetz glass, with a shape with a flower opening and colors from purple to beetle, made in the 1940s Measures: Ø cm 18 h cm 11 The production of Loetz glass began with Johan Loetz (1778-1848) in the 18th century through the takeover of the Klostermühle glassworks. In the second half of the 19th century, his nephew took charge of the modernization of the glassworks, introducing, thanks to the assistance of the inventor Eduard Prochaska, new processing techniques: thus new processes were born with glass in imitation of semi-precious stones, veins and the decoration. , which during processing includes hot coils or colored glass pads. Finally, at the end of the 19th century, the creation of the first glass iridescences with metallic reflections began, up to the creation of Phänomen in glass with applications and inserts of partially metallized glass filaments, similar to Tiffany glass and the famous Papillon glass...

Large Austrian Neoclassical Style Porcelain Vases by Royal Vienna
By Royal Vienna Porcelain
Located in London, GB
Large Austrian Neoclassical style porcelain vases by Royal Vienna Austrian, Late 19th Century Height 98cm, diameter 32cm Crafted by the prestigious Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, this exquisite pair of vases embodies the centuries-old tradition of European porcelain artistry. Designed in an elegant baluster form, each vase features a deep navy ground, providing a striking backdrop for the finely hand-painted historical tableaux. The slender necks are adorned with delicate gilded patterns, further enhanced by ribbon-tied accents and raised gilded jewels, a particularly coveted element in high-quality porcelain. Matching porcelain lids, crowned with a pinecone finial, complete the sophisticated design, while the spreading socle bases mirror the decorative motifs of the necks. The vases depict four significant historical events, masterfully reinterpreted from renowned artworks. One scene illustrates King Charles V liberating Christian slaves in Tunis, inspired by a 19th-century engraving by Nicaise de Keyser (Belgian, 1813-1887). Another portrays the Battle of Bouvines (1214), based on an 1827 painting by Horace Vernet (French, 1789-1863). A third panel brings to life Oliver Cromwell dissolving the Long Parliament, adapted from a 1782 print by Benjamin West (American, 1738-1820). The final scene, inspired by Jan Matejko’s (Polish, 1838-1893) 1866 painting ‘Rejtan’ (also known as ‘The Fall of Poland’), represents the first partition of Poland in 1773. The Austrian porcelain artists have reimagined these compositions with richer, more luminous colours, infusing the scenes with energy while softening their dramatic intensity. Supporting these vases are ornate porcelain plinths, decorated with oval cartouches featuring additional painted vignettes. The undersides of the lids are inscribed with the corresponding scene titles. These include: Der letzte Reichstag zu Warschau (The last parliament in Warsaw), Karl V als Befreier der christlichen Sklaven in Tunis (Charles V as liberator of the Christian slaves in Tunis), Cromwell verhindert die Verfolgung des Waldenser (Cromwell prevents the persecution of the Waldensians), Bataille de Bouvines (Battle of Bouvines). Each piece bears the blue ‘FD/ VIENNA / AUSTRIA’ mark for Franz Dörfl. With their grand proportions, historical depth, and remarkable artistic execution, this pair of vases is an extraordinary acquisition for any collector of fine European porcelain.

Richard Teschner for Loetz Merman Glass Jug c1906, Uranium Glass Elements
By Richard Teschner, Johann Lötz Witwe
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Striking Art Nouveau jug was designed by Richard Teschner in 1906 for Lötz Witwe, Klostermühle. It was made in mould-blown technique in opal or alabaster white glass with uranium green glass applications. Comb and long moustache are green, and eyes and pupils are made of yellow and red glass. The jug can be identified by multiple veritable online and printed resources; it was manufactured in clear and opal glass with both uranium green and clear green applications; some resources have the opal one listed as model no. 4506, but we haven't seen any mentions of uranium glass anywhere, making this piece rather rare and unusual. This piece will work very well in any style of interior or would make a great gift for an art and design enthusiast. The jug is in good antique condition with light, age-appropriate signs on wear on the bottom. Both sides of moustache have sharp ends; upon close examination of pictures of Merman jugs that were listed as "in perfect condition" and had the same sharp ends, we came to a conclusion that the sharp ends must be created as a part of manufacturing process during the application of long, thin strands of stretched glass...
