Large Fleur de Pêche marble and ormolu antique fireplace French, 19th Century Height 121cm, width 188cm, depth 63cm This stunning fireplace combines unusual Fleur de Pêche marble with sculptural ormolu mounts. The fireplace consists of a panelled frieze, below which is the wide serpentine opening. The twin jambs are canted in form, and are supported by footblocks. The use of the historic Fleur de Pêche marble is particularly pleasing: featuring deep veining in a palette of cream, purple, and brown, the marble was highly popular for opulent 19th century design, adorning elite interiors such as the main hall of the Napoleon III apartments in the Louvre. The fireplace is adorned with several ormolu mounts. A large Rococo scallop shell form decorates the centre of the marble frieze, trailed by acanthus leaves. The upper sections of the jambs are applied with female terms, whose bodies dissolve into further acanthus-style forms. The bottom sections also feature gilt-bronze decoration, with further scallop shell designs. The fireplace also features a cast-iron inset, decorated with geometric designs. The fireplace clearly takes inspiration from the Rococo-style fireplace in the Council Cabinet in the King’s Apartments at Versaille, which was designed in the late 18th century by Jacques Verberckt and Jacques Caffiéri. This sophisticated gilt bronze mantel clock is an elegant piece of mid-19th century design, beautifully cast and gilded and set with two delicate Sèvres style porcelain panels. The clock case's finest feature is the charmingly naturalistic scene at its top, showing a full-length sculpture of a female figure sitting with a basket and two doves. They are displayed on a naturalistic, oval-shaped plinth, which is decorated all around its exterior with painstakingly intricate foliate motifs. Either side of the plinth there are two Sevres style porcelain panels, each of which shows a winged putto. One putto is shown writing, while the other is shown holding a dove. Each is set inside a turquoise blue border decorated with delicate gilt scrolls. In the centre of the plinth sits the clock dial, which is enamelled and contains Roman numerals. Large French neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted bed French, late 19th century Measures: Height 143cm, width 147cm, depth 225cm This impressive bed is crafted in the neoclassical style from wood, gilt bronze, and red velvet. The bed features a large, shaped headboard, which is centred with a panel of red floral velvet, with the wooden structure of the headboard mounted with a host of gilt bronze mounts including rosettes and pomegranate finials. The large and impressive pair of ten-light candelabra, each with a patinated figure of a standing bearded semi-nude male holding an ornate ormolu ten-light candelabrum, their bare feet resting on allegorical wreaths, helmet and sword stash, all above square black-slate plinth surmounted with ormolu trims and scrolled legs, the front surmounted with patinated bronze plaques depicting Greco-Roman scenes of Senators and maidens. Stamped "H. Picard" on the inner ring, the back of the male figures each stamped with the numerals "3776". Circa: Paris, 1850-1860. The well regarded fondeur and doreur Henri Picard was recorded at 6 rue Jarente in 1831, and moved to 10 rue de la Perle in 1839.
