Set of 12 Italian Pine Dining Chairs, Attributed to Mario Marenco, 1970s
Located in Almelo, NL
Set of 12 Italian Pine Dining Chairs, Attributed to Mario Marenco, 1970s A rare set of twelve sculptural dining chairs in solid pine, attributed to Mario Marenco. Italian craftsmanship, 1970s. Warm patina, organic lines and beautifully rounded volumes. This impressive set of twelve dining chairs is attributed to Mario Marenco, Italy, circa 1970s. Crafted in solid pine, the chairs display the characteristic sculptural language associated with Marenco’s organic modern designs: warm materials, soft curvature, and a sense of architectural solidity blended with a friendly, human approach to form. Each chair features a wide, gently rounded backrest that flows into two vertical back supports, creating an instantly recognisable silhouette. The carved seat, with its subtly modelled edges, enhances comfort while maintaining a clean and minimal aesthetic. The solid pine construction shows beautiful grain patterns, natural knots and a deep, hand-applied patinated finish that has developed a rich, warm tone over the years. The proportions are balanced and reassuringly robust, making the chairs suitable for both residential and hospitality settings—such as chalets, restaurants, wine bars or alpine-inspired interiors. Their expressive and organic character resonates with the Italian rustic-modern movement of the 1970s, as well as with the handcrafted Brutalist vocabulary seen in contemporary furniture from the same era. Large matching sets of pine chairs from this period are increasingly difficult to source, and sets of twelve are particularly rare. Their strong visual presence allows them to pair beautifully with monolithic wood tables, stone dining tables or softer modernist interiors. With their combination of authenticity, craftsmanship and sculptural warmth, these chairs present a distinctive alternative to more commonly known mid-century design classics. A wonderful opportunity for interior designers looking for a cohesive and highly decorative seating ensemble. Dimensions (per chair): Height: 81 cm (31.9 in) Width: 45 cm (17.7 in) Depth: 55 cm (21.6 in) Seat Height: 44 cm (17.3 in) Quantity: 12 chairs CONDITION REPORT Very good original vintage condition. Solid and stable frames. Minor wear consistent with age and use. Beautiful patinated finish with natural knots and grain variations. Mario Marenco (1933–2021) was an Italian architect and designer known for his sculptural, organic approach to furniture. He collaborated with Arflex, Poltrona Frau and several artisan workshops during the 1970s, creating expressive designs in solid wood and richly upholstered forms. Marenco’s work combines warmth, humour and architectural precision, making his pieces highly desirable in today’s interiors. SHIPPING & PACKAGING Worldwide insured shipping available. Our workshop provides: Professional packing Custom export crate for overseas shipments Fully insured transport Door-to-door delivery options Chairs ship safely in one or two custom crates depending on destination. Mobichalet Brutalist set of 4 Solid Wood Chairs 1960
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Mobichalet, founded by a teacher turned cabinetmaker named Joseph Deffense in Beauraing, Belgium, in 1950, had been active a decade, aiming at furnishing second homes with rustic furnitures, which left a sought after legacy of strikingly powerful and peculiar handcrafted brutalist pieces. The chairs forming this set are typical of the designer : the seat itself is a solid slab of pine wood, the headrest is thick, a simple rectangular cuboid, and, as expected in a brutalist design, the construction is very simple yet efficient and sturdy with no sharp angles. This extremely nice set features an homogeneous seat height and very good backrest angle through all the chairs, ensuring an unexpected and consistent comfort. Under the seat, as illustrated in the pictures, the brand logo is directly carved - or drilled - in the wood with large stencil...
