It's part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist gathers linguistic phrases to immortalize the valuable contributions of other cultures to the American Diaspora. To describe Buchman's word paintings as 'A Figure of Speech' is an understatement of the profound soulfulness they embody. They bear the marks of the artist's hand but also carry the collective spirit of many who came before him. These words derive from familiar phrases, music albums, his unique brand of irony, and the very essence of the human form.
For this specific piece, 'Note to Self,' Peter is fascinated by what he said - she said and all of that back-and-forth cross-communication. Phrases like 'word on the street' and 'news at eleven'—we are all familiar with this kind of language, but how does it make us feel to see it stacked on top of each other? Writing lists, scribbling notes, verbatim, talking to ourselves or our partners... where does it all get us? Everywhere? Nowhere? This communication and street slang intrigues him. Whether he hears it or actually sees the words, the language grabs his attention, and he wants to discuss it again... with you, the viewer. Will you engage? Signed and dated en verso. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. In the hustle and bustle of life, we often miss out on essential experiences unless we allow ourselves to be quiet and introspective. Jennifer believes that finding solace is crucial, and she invites viewers to appreciate its significance. Her work provides a meditative space, offering a brief moment of quiet reflection. In 2017, she was interviewed by Jenine Culligan, the director at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University, where her solo exhibition sabbatical work was titled "An Almost Unnoticed Quietus." This title cleverly connects "quietus" with "almost unnoticed," highlighting the themes of meditation and mindfulness. Through these practices, Jennifer uncovers profound aspects of our world and emotions often overlooked in our hurried lives. Meditation has taught her to appreciate the moments when we are on the verge of giving up, as these are often when unexpected greatness can unfold.

This is an amazing piece of functional art.
3 panels of David Segel artwork on a 3 part floor screen.
Hand painted gouache artwork by well known artist DAVID SEGEL is signed and numbered on the back of the 3 panel floor screen.
The subject or model for this piece of art is again his muse that is used for his sculptures.
The condition is in excellent vintage condition. Strong and sturdy. No chips, no cracks, no marring, the long brass piano hinges are stable and secured in place.
Dimensions Are: Panels 1 & 3 Are Twenty-Three Inches Wide by Panel 2 Is Thirty-One Inches Wide. Total Of Seventy-Seven Inches Wide by Seventy-Two and A Half Inches Tall by Two and a Half Inches Thick.
David Segel 1921-2005:
An American Modernist Painter And Sculptor. He Lived In Venice California and Paris. After studying at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, and the Art Institute of Chicago, David moved to Paris in 1950 to work and teach, He studied in the atelier of Fernand Leger and then traveled around other Western European countries. He has been shown in galleries from Paris, France, to Los Angeles, California, including the Whitney Museum in New York City. Segel enjoyed a prolific career and worked with a variety of mediums including: oils, bronze and wood sculptures, and dramatic sketches. He also worked in furniture and interior design. Segel’s work is represented in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum. His awards include The First Carnegie Prize and The Hallmark International Art Award. David Segel died in Venice, California in 2005 at the age of 84.
