A Chinese late Qing Dynasty period framed painting from the early 20th century of a royalty related couple with dragon motifs painted on a linen canvas. Created in China during the late Qing Dynasty in the early years of the 20th century, this custom framed painting depicts a couple wearing either a red (a symbol of luck in China) or green robe. The depiction of dragons relates them to the Imperial family, but having four claws and not five as codified, the couple is likely part of the royal family, not the Imperial couple themselves. Accented with typical motifs such as bats, flaming pearls and rain-filled clouds, the robes are filled with symbols. Wearing ornate headdresses, the couple is sitting on elegant chairs. Set inside custom made frames, the paintings show great signs of age. While the entire piece measures 40.5"W x 1"D x 53"H, the painting itself is 36.5"W x 49". This is such an incredible lithograph by master printmaker, Garo Zareh Antreasian c1977. We aren’t sure if the artwork is better than the beautiful shadow box frame or vise versa. Our expert framer floated this piece perfectly in a custom made shadow box frame. The wood used which is mainly black, but has thin streaks of silvery grey (almost metallic feel) that picks up in the grey gradient lines throughout the artwork. *Note this is not an edition, which makes this more valuable, and collectable. In our opinion, after looking at his body of work, we think this is probably the best piece he did. The execution on this is just incredible. Signed in pencil, embossed with the artist’s cipher, and dated.
The print itself is in perfect condition with no flaws, anything you see in the photos is a reflection from the lights when we photographed it. This was just framed so it’s flawless.
Garo Zareh Antreasian (1922-2018) was born in Indianapolis, printmaker Garo Zareh Antreasian helped to promote the art of lithography among American artists during the 1960s and 1970s. He studied printmaking with Will Barnet in New York. During the 1950s, while teaching at the John Herron Institute in Indianapolis, he began to produce color lithographs.

It's a part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist culls linguistic phrases in a journey to immortalize how wonderfully other cultures have contributed to the American Diaspora. To explain that Buchman's word paintings are 'A Figure of Speech' is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. As far as "Exit Strategy" goes, Peter Buchman tends to dream a lot when he sleeps. When it's a really deep sleep, he is usually in an espionage kind of caper. Maybe James Bond meets film noir. He doesn't know why, but he's woken himself up running in place, sweating, and truly believing that he's killed someone. It is such a relief to sit up in bed and find that nothing's really happened, and all is well in his little corner of the world. With that said, there's a twisted, funny side to all of this, which leads him to something that everyone is familiar with: getting out of a sticky situation and how to address it. Facing it head-on and with a sense of humor is his default. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio.

After Antoine de Pluvinel (French, 1552-1620), "Henry IV, Mounted", figure 42 from "L'Instruction du Roy en l'Exercice de Monter a Cheval", c. 1625, matted and framed under UF-3 plexiglass (blocks approx. 97% of UV) , gallery label verso. Figures from this publication have sold at Christie's. Those were not hand colored.
A highly detailed engraving with the French King Henry 1V the central figure. Mounted on horseback, Le Roy (the King) is watched by no less than 10 courtiers some of whom are mounted on horseback, all of which are named in the engraving.
Antoine de Pluvinel (1552, Crest, Dauphine - 24 August 1620) was the first of the French riding masters, and has had great influence on modern dressage. He wrote L’Instruction du Roy en L'exercice de Monter à Cheval ("instruction of the King in the art of riding"), was tutor to King Louis XIII, and is credited with the invention of using two pillars, as well as using shoulder-in to increase suppleness.
In 1594, Pluvinel founded the "Academie d'Equitation" near what is now Place des Pyramides. There, the French nobility was trained not only in horsemanship, but also in all the accomplishments (dancing, fashionable dressing, etc.) It can be said that Pluvinel's influence on the aristocracy lasted from the late 16th century to the 17th century. Richelieu, the future Prime Minister of King Louis XIII attended the Academie; so did William, Duke of Cavendish.
