The work, in full Liberty style, represents some women covered by transparent veils who are running with amphorae on their heads. The scene is very dynamic; behind them, several men are running behind them. The figures are in a structure covered by sqared bricks and are walking quickly up the stairs.
Ferdinand Bac (1859 - 1952). Ferdinand-Sigismond Bach, known as Ferdinand Bac was a French cartoonist, artist and writer, son of an illegitimate nephew of the Emperor Napoleon. Born in Greencastle, Indiana, Griffith grew up in Dallas, Texas where Texas artist and teacher Charles Franklin Reaugh recognized young “Griff’s” artistic talent. At age 18, Griffith moved to St. Louis where he attended the St. Louis School of Fine Arts.
In 1895, he moved to Chicago where he worked making color prints for the firm Barnes and Crosby. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago and during a brief stay in New York, the National Academy of Design. A successful commercial artist with a studio in the Chicago Loop, Griffith was a member and president of the Chicago Palette and Chisel Club.

Vaupalière is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region of northern France.
Greenwood captures the bleaching light of high summer and sculpts the paint to draw the eye along the furrows of the field. Wonderful paint texture throughout.
Orlando Greenwood was born in Nelson, Lancashire. He studied at Goldsmith's College, London before signing up with the Royal Engineers at the outbreak of the First World War.
