Carlos Betancourt (born San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966) is an American multi-disciplinary artist. His artworks explore issues of memory, and his own experiences, while also dwelling in issues of nature, the environment and matters of beauty, identity and communication. He has worked as a curator, furniture designer and has collaborated in with Louis Vuitton as well as on architectural and site-specific private and public commissions with architect Alberto Latorre. Betancourt artwork is in part inspired by his relationship with nature as well as by the diverse cultures and history of the Caribbean basin, Florida and the Americas. Also by artist Ana Mendieta interventions, Robert Rauschenberg assemblages, Andy Warhol perceptions, Neo Rauch compositions, and a Federico Fellini-esque cast of characters for his photo assemblages. Additionally, he relates to some of theorist Jean Baudrillard views about art and his philosophy on objects; French artist Gustave Courbet's idea that "the only possible source for living art is the artist's own experiences", as well as the Martinican writer and theoretician, Edouard Glissant's belief that ..."the past resides in material objects that only release their hidden meanings when encountered imaginatively and sensuously. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, Mississippi. Ceroli is one of the most influential artists of the Italian post-war period. Ceroli moved to Rome at the age of ten where he later graduated from 'Accademia delle Belle Arti'. At the Art Institute he worked under the guidance of Leoncillo Leonardi, Pericle Fazzini and Ettore Colla, where he experimented with the use of ceramic. In 1958, he first exhibited these works at the Premium Spoleto. In the same year Ceroli held his first solo exhibition at Galleria San Sebastianello of Rome. During 1959 he began to experiment with new materials, particularly with raw wood, such as Russian pinewood. He used these materials to create silhouetted shapes in his furniture and objects that related simplistically to the surrounding space. In the 1960's Ceroli took part in exhibitions related to the "Arte de Povera" group. He had also been involved as screenplay director collaborating with "II Teatro Stabile" in Turin and with "La Scala" In Milan. A warm loving Jewish family. His father a judge, his mother, descendent from a rabbinic family, was a great storyteller who transformed the heroes of the Bible into her child’s best friends. A small village at the base of the pyramids of Giza, school trips to the Valley of the Kings in Aswan. Ancient Egyptian art looking at the dreamy child from every corner. Given the chance to look back, it becomes clear that Victor’s lifelong dream – to become an artist, had it’s beginnings right there – in the child dreaming at the Nile. Victor Halvany was born in 1930 to Bella and Yitzchak (OBM). Soaked in that enchanted childhood atmosphere, Victor found himself spending hours and days in the Cairo museum of art, looking at the exhibits and drawing them with intensity and enthusiasm. His inspiration filled drawings caught the eye of his teachers and with there encouragement he entered a national competition in which he won first place. This lead to him winning a full scholarship at the art faculty in Zamalek and at the Cairo University. Full of hopes and dreams he began his studies, only to be interrupted after one year. The Israeli war of independence began and subsequently the pogroms, and the urgent need of Egyptian Jews to emigrate, going first to France and than to Israel. Victor’s first years in Israel were years of struggle for survival, but simultaneously years of activity and progress. In 1950, while serving in the army, Victor met Margalit, the women at his side, mother of his children and the most present character in his career of activity and art. With Margalit’s encouragement and support he not only raised a family, fathering two boys and a girl, but also fulfilled his dream and was fortunate to have a full and inspiring career- as a person, artist, and teacher. Today, in his advanced age, Victor continues his daily activities: creates, plans, exhibits, and as always – open-minded, curious, learning, getting updated. 1953 – Received scholarship and year of study at Bezalel School of art and design in Jerusalem. 1956 – Finished education studies and received BA in education. Tel Aviv art teachers college. 1969 – Scholarship to study abroad for a year at Hammersmith College of art & building in London, graduating cum laude. 1970 – Received MA in art education and sculpture. 2015 – Participation in the sculpture exhibit at the Mamilla mall promenade in Jerusalem. Music Sonata In A Shadow Box 2023 Mixed Media, artist signed, front Plexiglas. This sculpture is perfect for the wall or a coffee table. This 3D music diorama found its home in a drawer from an antique Tansu Chest. Some of the 3D elements were made by Erikson. Antique materials achieve a vintage and interesting aesthetic. The depth of the case creates a stage like atmosphere as sort of a visual guide for the viewers eye. The overlapping and juxtaposition of the elements creates a intriguing and appealing composition. Very often Erikson art echoes and fuses antiquity and modernity. Erikson’s central imagery concerns itself with intrigue and a sense of surprise. His body of work is often dispersed with visual, tactile and intellectual delights that lead the viewer on their own form of discovery. Erikson’s awareness of the aesthetic in sending things back in time is a result of studying the Renaissance and other periods of art history. This infusion of historical art references has had a vital effect on his body of work. Heavily influenced by the well known New York art dealer Allan Stone (who represented, among other giants, Joseph Cornell, and Willem de Kooning, Erikson has never departed from Stone’s insistence that “surprise” should remain with a piece of art no matter how long it is viewed. The discipline of archeology decodes messages of the past to find meanings of objects and classify them. This observation takes the viewer on a deeper understanding of the interplay. As a curator of his own “museum cases” in other work, Erikson’s personal vocabulary evokes images of extreme preciousness combined in miniature settings. Despite its minute scale his work commands presence and a sense of vastness. In his body of work, Erikson attempts to introduce sculpture to painting as a way of integrating the second and third dimensions.
