Jaap Deelder
Eagle Owl - 21st Century Sculpture of an Owl made of oak

2012

About the Item

This owl is made from oak. The peace and power that both emanate from this monumental eagle owl is probably hidden in the actual format (lifelike) and the deep-set eye sockets. Beautiful and lifelike. Jaap Deelder has exhibited at the Bonnard gallery before. Art lovers, but also "bird watchers" were struck by their eyes. Deelder is also greatly admired by his colleagues. Several of them made the gallery owners aware of the artist's special work two years ago. Now the sculptor is exhibiting at Bonnard for the second time, with new work, together with the three aforementioned draftsman / painters who also greatly admire his sculptures and all have his own work. Deelder makes sculptures in wood and stone, with birds at the center. He wants his images to speak for themselves as much as possible and strives for ornithological correctness. ,,It has to be right; sizes, proportions and proportions must be correct. "" Deelder uses different types of stone and many types of wood. Leaving out details and a certain degree of stylization can play an important role for technical or artistic reasons, but he believes that they should not harm the natural form. , "A bird is so beautiful, you don't have to add or change anything about it."   Wood and stone Jaap Deelder makes sculptures in wood and stone, in which birds play a central role. He wants his images to speak for themselves as much as possible and strives for ornithological correctness. "It has to be right; dimensions, attitudes and proportions must be correct. " The chopped or cut form and the structure and drawing of wood and stone play a game and reinforce each other. Jaap uses different types of stone and many types of wood. Omitting details and a certain degree of stylization can play an important role for technical or artistic reasons, but he believes that they should not harm the natural form. "A bird is so beautiful, you don't have to add or change anything about it." Artist for Nature Foundation Since the late 1980s he has had regular exhibitions at home and abroad. Much of his work is in private and museum ownership. There are also several collectors of his work. Since the 1990s, the artist has been a member of the "Artist for Nature Foundation" (ANF).
