A collection of five Empoli amber glass pieces produced by the Stelvia Glass Workshop in Italy during the 1950s–1960s. Three of the decanters are attributed to designs by American glass artist Wayne Husted, created for the American market. Two examples retain the “Made in Italy” mark often associated with these exports. The group includes four decanters with stoppers and one apothecary or candy jar. All pieces are handmade using the pressed or molded glass technique characteristic of Empoli production, and feature the warm amber tone typical of Stelvia glass from this period. Condition is very good overall. One stopper has a small hairline crack at the base, which is stable and barely visible unless closely examined. What truly stands out and is absolutely remarkable is how the maker/artist manged to make this work appear like a completely different sculpture depending on the angle it's viewed from. History: Paris Porcelain (Porcelain de Paris), a term that conjures images of grandeur, elegance, and sophistication; is to France what Dresden Porcelain is to Germany. Porcelain by a variety of makers from a region rather than one maker, it's the collective name given to the various porcelain studios and decorating workshops within and around Paris, France. In this case and many others Porcelain de Paris is also as good if not sometimes better than Dresden, Meissen or Sevres porcelain and is certainly a collectible to look out for. The Bourdoir and Bloch factory was originally founded around 1820 and specialized in producing fine quality porcelain in the style of the famous 18th century factories. This most distinctive figural bird was made by the Paris porcelain factory of Bourdoir and Bloch around 1910. This example bears the August 8, 1887 registered trademark of two blue crossed arrows, used around the time that Eugene Marx Clauss had joined forces with Achille Bloch and Leon Bourdois (who were both collaborators of Samson) and were operating under the name Clauss Co from 1887-1890 in the small factory started by Eugene's grandfather Jean-Marx Clauss in 1788 on rue de la Pierre-Levee in Paris. A gorgeous Italian glass bowl by Lino Tagliapietra for Effetre International, Murano, 1986. The bowl still has an Effetre International label on it. It is also graven at the bottom with Lino Tagliapietra, Effetre International and 1987 the year of creation. Clear glass with a black or sepia colored thin net like pattern called 'zanfirico' (Italian): A type of polychrome cane made by assembling a bundle of rods of different colors, and heating it until it is soft. The bundle is then attached to two pontils and elongated by drawing. At the same time, the bundle is twisted to produce a spiral pattern. Zanfirico, which is a synonym for vetro a retorti, takes its name from the Venetian dealer Antonio Sanquirico, who, in the 1830s, encouraged the revival on Murano of this and other traditional techniques.
