This is an antique ladies travelling box. An English, rosewood and inlay combination sewing case and writing slope, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850. Exquisite craftsmanship accentuates this fine travel box Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order Select stocks present fine grain interest throughout Quality inlay adorns the lid and fascia with spectral highlights Inset, working lock to the fascia — key present Opening in two stages, the first aspect being a traditional sewing box Lid reverse hosting a document slide, held securely by a brass twist clasp Removable pin cushion tray replete with six twine bail compartments Upon removal of the tray, the centre section opening to reveal a writing slope Pair of velvet skivers, the upper half hosting a concealed storage compartment Replete with a pair of glass ink wells, topped with silver plated lids Pen tray residing between the ink wells, with removable lid This is a fascinating antique ladies travelling box, presenting a beautiful exterior and a well appointed interior. Ideal for writing correspondence and running repairs en voyage. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
