This is a stunning vintage mid-century modern lingerie chest designed by Glenn of California. It is comprised of GORGEOUS rosewood top and drawer fronts bordered by an aluminum strip, grooved handle pulls on the sides of the drawers, cased with black painted sides. It has eight drawers that graduate in size from smaller at the top to larger at the bottom. Maybe you don’t have lingerie?? No worries!! Although it is called a lingerie chest you could certainly use it as a tall, narrow dresser in your bedroom or dressing area. It would be a lovely cabinet to use in a study, office, hall, or entry for linens, books, office supplies, or anything you want to stow away in a phenomenal piece of mid-century modern excellence. Glenn of California was owned by father and son team Isaac and Robert Baron and based in Arcadia California and has been credited for being at the forefront of the West Coast modernist design movement in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The company made a name for itself when it hired Milo Baughman. They would go on to hire Swedish architect and designer Greta Magnusson-Grossman, the first woman to receive an award from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design. The significant furniture line she and Baughman designed called the California Modern Collection became known for its laid-back Los Angeles style and integration of walnut, iron, and Formica. Glenn of California collaborated with many notable designers including Kipp Stweart, Paul Laslo, John Kapel, & Stanley Young. Circa, Late 1900’s - Early 20th Century. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY KING AND QUEEN!!!! Talk about ABSOLUTE Royalty!!! This is a glorious pair of Gothic Revival Ecclesiastical His & Hers Throne chairs comprised of hand carved oak frames bearing engraved Gothic details, designs, and cutouts including a transcendent triple finial high back presentation worthy of nobility. Each peak is hand carved with designs resembling oak leaves and they have been intricately dyed black… they’re nothing short of fabulous. Because of the maturity of these chairs, we believe that they were probably reupholstered at some point in their lives, and they look marvelous!! They are wearing a beautiful bright cardinal red hopsacking fabric trimmed with gimp and nail head details on the seats and back inserts which also have upholstered backs. The King chair has fabric surrounding the arm rests while the Queen chair has no arms, however it does have attractive side braces. Both thrones have lovely hand carved decorative front aprons with black detail and stand proudly upon turned front legs with black dyed rings & details on casters and square straight slightly curved back legs… I mean, WOW!!!! They’re definitely Ecclesiastical and Gothic Revival but they bear a bit of East Lake Victorian style as well and they are SURE to be quite the conversation piece in your home! Gorgeous modern oak veneer large trestle style dining or conference table with bullnose edge top and slab style legs. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. We have noticed a few minor nicks and dings on the top and along the edges. Lol… It’s super large!! It is comprised of gorgeous oak veneer with solid oak applied to both ends… kind of a modified trestle style dining table with slab legs, and beautiful bullnose edge on said top and legs. The added solid oak ends are separated from the veneered top by a narrow-blackened groove which sets this detail off nicely. It is absolutely stunning!! It is a colossal 96 inches long and seats eight comfortably, but you may fit ten if the chairs are a bit narrower or you straddle the legs. The legs are recessed 6.5 inches, so straddling is not a large obstacle. In addition, although the natural oak is beautiful, we can also see this being ebonized with a little black dye. Incredible!!! It will be fabulous in your dining room or as a lovely conference table at the office! It is modern in style, but it will host oodles of options of dining or office chairs! We have LOTS of chairs...
