Fabulous vintage white vinyl & chrome tube barstool by Thonet Model SS33 Bauhaus cantilever chair by Anton Lorenz. This piece is tagged Thonet but has been attributed to Anton Lorenz based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there is a stain on the seat vinyl that we have tried many things to remove to no avail. Did someone say Thonet?? Yes, we sure did!! This is a fabulous labeled Thonet cantilever barstool circa 1980’s. It is in the style of the model SS33 Bauhaus cantilever chair designed in the 1930’s for Thonet by famed designer Anton Lorenz. The chair design was later adapted to create this wonderful barstool! It is comprised of a chrome tube cantilever frame, black block stabilizers on the base, and white vinyl seats and back rests. A simple, stunning, and oh-so-comfortable design! It is the perfect stool for your kitchen, bar, or rec room whether you live in a Bauhaus or mid-century modern home, an industrial loft, or Art Deco style home. It’s a classic, sleek style that has stood the test of time!! If you’ve been searching for a barstool or just the right extra seating, this stool is exactly what you’ve been looking for! Thonet was founded by Michael Thonet. Michael was born in 1796 and was apprenticed by his father to a cabinetmaker. Shortly after he married, Michael opened his one-man cabinetmaking shop creating furniture and cabinetry in the traditional manner by carving the needed parts and then joining them together. In 1830 he began experimenting with bending wood into curved shapes and thus began a successful furniture company that has remained continually in operation for nearly 200 years. Thonet’s early work was very Biedermeier in style and not made for the common man. Gradually his designs became more Art Nouveau. In 1951 his chairs for the Crystal Palace at the London World’s Fair won a prize medal and by the late 1950s he began to make his first “consumer” chair. In 1875, a year before Michael’s death, Thonet’s five factories made 620,000 chairs. Then in 1876 after his death the company became Gebruder Thonet. But all was not roses. In 1869 the Thonet patents lapsed and by 1893 there were 52 bentwood companies in Europe. However, Thonet persevered. They branched out. They merged. They added designs by Le Corbusier and Breuer and alternative materials such as tubular chrome in place of bentwood to their offerings. Business boomed and waned through the years and there was even a Thonet revival, so to speak, beginning in the 1940s on into the mid-20th century. Till today, in the 21st century, Thonet is still a furniture company to be reckoned with almost 200 years later. Anton Lorenz was known as the man behind the Bauhaus’ “machined aesthetic.” He was born in Budapest in 1891, became a teacher, and later married an opera singer, and entered a lock manufacturing business. They relocated to Berlin in the early 1920’s. in Berlin he met architects Marcel Breuer and Kalman Lengyel who were both associated with Bauhaus in Dessau. Breuer became the first designer to construct furniture out of tubular steel, joined forces with Lengyel and found a manufacturing company and Anton Lorenz became manager. He was business savvy and obtained patents to establish a network of rights for new tubular steel furniture and would go on to do the same for Desta and Thonet who dominated the industry. In 1939 Lorenz emigrated to the United States where he established the design technology for the well-known recliner. He developed his own design in 1940 called the BarcaLounger and later partnered with Morris Futorian...

Enjoyable vintage MCM (Mid-Century Modern) Art Deco figural jester or harlequin table lamps in the style of Marbro, a pair. Comprised of molded plaster, hand painted details, antiqued gold painted stems and finials, and new black silk like drum shades. Did you know, a jester, court jester, fool or joker was historically a member of the household of a nobleman, or a monarch employed to entertain guests during the medieval and Renaissance eras? A jester was also an itinerant performer who entertained common folk at fairs and markets… and now this whimsical performing duo is ready to entertain YOU!!! This is a lively pair of figural table lamps in the style of Marbro comprised of molded plaster with intricately hand painted details. They have antiqued gold painted finials under new black silk like drum shades. The male is wearing a fabulous one piece garment embellished with gold and black diamonds, a cape with a broad gold ruffled collar, a black face mask with bright blue eyes, a Renaissance pirate style hat, and he is jamming out on his mandolin with one foot perched upon a ball. The female jester or “Plaisante” appears to be dancing and getting her groove on to the beat of the mandolin. Her outfit matches the male jester with black and gold diamonds down her pants, an identical wide gold ruffled collar, and a gold zig zag on the front of her top. And let’s not forget to mention her gorgeous gold shoes!! She also has a black face mask with blue eye slots and her hat is pointed with jewels on the front. She holds a facial fan which she waves as she dances and a shawl that drapes loosely across her back and flows as she glides to the music. They are sturdied by antiqued gold painted stems and they both stand upon a square base stacked upon a larger gilded square with rounded edges… They are absolutely EXQUISITE!!! Can’t you just hear the strum of the strings and see them laughing and dancing in front of their King or nobleman? We certainly can! They will be wonderful in a game or entertainment room, in your living room, one on each side of the sofa upon a pair of end tables or side by side on a sofa table, or in your bedroom, one on each nightstand beside your bed. They are mid-century modern with a little Art Deco and Hollywood Regency flair and will blend in beautifully with many décor styles. Mid-Century Modern 2-piece china hutch, cabinet, or buffet by Heywood Wakefield for the Contessa Collection. Comprised of 2-pieces a top hutch & a bottom buffet in a dark cherrywood, woven wicker basket weave or caned door fronts, brass toned pulls, & slim steel legs. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are nicks on the left side of the buffet edge toward the front. Stiffener has been added underneath buffet as the cabinet had sagged in the middle making doors uneven. Stiffener corrected that issue. Please see photos and zoom in for details. "Furniture of Slender Elegance." And does this China cabinet ever fit that description. The Contessa line features a darker cherrywood, gold or brass toned accents, and slim steel legs. This cabinet has 2 pieces. A bottom buffet that features brass toned pulls that open two sets of double doors. There are three drawers on the right side with a silverware tray in the top drawer. The left side is open storage. The top hutch features two rolling side doors with woven wicker basket weave, or caned, door fronts and three shelves in the center. The whole cabinet stands on slim steel legs and exudes mid-century modern magnificence! This awesome, versatile china cabinet or buffet will look amazing whether you place it in the dining room, living room, study, or the kitchen. It is adaptable enough to blend right in whether your design style leans to Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, industrial, southwestern, or modern country. In 1897, two prominent furniture companies, Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company merged and created Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company; the name would be shortened to Heywood-Wakefield in 1921. Handsome antique Victorian dresser of solid walnut and burl walnut with white marble top and black painted turned wood and brass teardrop pulls. It is in wonderful antique condition with an amazing antique patina. The candle shelves were broken and there was a small piece of molding missing on the lower left side of the mirror frame, but the shelves have been repaired beautifully and the molding carved and replaced by our experienced staff. There are other smalls signs of its long life and use including some staining on the antique white marble. We love its warm antique age patina. The mirror glass is clear but old. Handsome and iconic Scandinavian Modern Scissor lounge chair designed by Folke Ohlsson for DUX. It is in wonderful vintage condition. The wood frame has been restored; however, there may still be small signs of age. We did have to fill some rather deep flaws in the wood. The straps have been replaced with appropriate new straps. And the foam cushions are new and newly upholstered. Please see photos, circa 1950s. Now you can get all your DUX in a row!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This is the iconic and beautiful Scissor Lounge Chair. It was designed by Folke Ohlsson for his company DUX, Inc. purportedly in 1949. It is so incredible in its simplicity and when viewed from the side you can see immediately where it got its name. We are very excited about this wonderful chair here at our shop. Its walnut frame has been completely restored and we have replaced all the straps, which were beyond repair, with proper strapping. Fabulous vintage Hollywood Regency Chinoiserie Chinese Chippendale style Thomasville black low profile accent occasional chairs, set of 4. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, all 4 chairs have natural, distressed edges from age & wear which we have enhanced giving them a gorgeous patinated look then added a fresh coat of lacquer. You know, 1971 was a VERY good year… There were 3 partial solar eclipses AND there were TWO total lunar eclipses in the SAME year!!… The FIRST EVER Starbucks opened at the historic Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington… A movie ticket only cost $1.50… Oh ya… AND it’s the year I was BORN!! (Hmmmmm, those eclipses may explain a few things in my life!) LOL…Anyway, how privileged am I to share a birthday with these MARVELOUS occasional chairs by Thomasville!!! This is a set of four incredible Thomasville low profile occasional chairs in the style of James Mont covered in a deep black faux ebony finish bearing a naturally distressed all-over patina on their frames. They have wide, square seats wearing lovely black vinyl or faux leather fabric that is nice enough to use for a while but eventually you may want to reupholster. Just think of the limitless fabric possibilities!!! They feature beautifully carved Asian detailed backs and straight square legs with a wide and sturdy stance. The front legs have a slightly turned in foot, but no rounded hoof look so not quite the Ming style, but we might say a hint or bit of flair. They are definitely bursting with styles of Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie, and Chinese Chippendale magnificence and are sure to be a favorite new addition to your home! They are too low for use at a standard dining table; however, if you have a low profile Asian Chabudai (Japanese short-legged table,) or a low-profile game table, these would be a perfect fit!! Otherwise, you could certainly use them as extra seating in your living or family room or split them up and use two in the corner of your bedroom and two in the sitting room or study across from your fireplace. They are very versatile, composed of solid frames, and they bear an unmatchable and timeless Thomasville reputation!! They are EXACTLY what the designer ordered! The original Thomasville furniture company was founded in 1904. At the time, it was called the Thomasville chair company since the company focused on producing chairs exclusively. Over the next few decades, the catalog expanded to include additional furniture pieces. During this time, the original company went through several owners; despite this, the company still experienced financial success even through economic hardship of the 1930s. Vintage pieces from the Thomasville Furniture company run the gamut from chairs to dining room furniture and many different types of furniture in between. Fantastic vintage Modern to Postmodern maple pedestal base round coffee table with blue laminate inlaid top designed by Michael Graves for Craftwood a Division of Sonnenberg Ind. Ltd. The wood base was repaired and filled prior to refinishing & there were little nicks in the laminate that were filled & colored. This savvy little coffee table certainly took us on a wild goose chase that I’m not sure is completely over! You can find this table all over the internet attributed to Adrian Pearsall. It is NOT designed by him. Of that we are sure. But definitely in his style so it is easy to see where the misattribution comes from. It is also attributed to Valentine Seever, which is not a single person but two last names. And it may have been promoted by them as they were a division of Kroehler Manufacturing Co.
