About the Item

Marvelous vintage Mid-Century Modern headboard Lane Furniture Tower Suite Collection comprised of walnut and rosewood. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been restored or refinished. Please see photos and zoom in for details as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 10-18-1971. Sometimes the best thing to do first thing in the morning is go right back to bed! And honestly, with a bed this beautiful, you may never want to get up!!! This is an INCREDIBLE full or queen sized “Tower Suite Collection” headboard by Lane Furniture!! It bears a lovely contrast of a walnut frame and fabulous decorative rosewood inlays across the front and both sides. This is a classic beauty with a Mid-Century Modern style that you are sure to love for years to come. It is going to be gorgeous in your bedroom! All you need is a full or queen-sized mattress and a Hollywood frame OR if you don’t mind the opinion of my mom, who is an EXCEPTIONAL retired interior designer… She would have a hanging mechanism or wall cleat made so that you can attach it to the wall and lift it a little higher, use a platform rather than a Hollywood frame, and toss out the box springs as mattresses today are much taller than they used to be. Annnnnd, Voila! Maximum exposure of the headboard! If that sounds like something you would be interested in, we would be happy to provide a wall cleat upon purchase of the headboard. This is a gorgeous example of high-quality craftsmanship constructed with exquisite woods and attention to detail quintessential of Lane Furniture. You simply can’t go wrong! Lane was founded in 1912 by Edward Hudson Lane at the age of 21, upon his father’s suggestion after he, John Edward Lane, bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista, Virginia. Edward procured a loan and converted the factory to make cedar chests and named it The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. Sales were good and the company expanded. But during WWI, with the banning of rail freight deemed non-essential, they began making pine ammunition boxes. This is notable as it led to an assembly line which was revolutionary and became the first moving conveyor assembly system in the furniture industry. After the war, with sales still increasing, Ed Lane decided he could risk giving the company his name and changed it to The Lane Co. in 1922. They began advertising and an ambitious program of research and development leading to hiring their first staff designer and sales force. They made it through the depression with a lot of hard work and again during WWII converted to providing items needed for wartime. After WWII a complete design department was added. They were innovative, creating new materials. One called Lanewood which was produced from waste wood. 1951 brought the making of occasional tables. Then in 1956 the acquisitions began of other companies to add case goods and upholstered furnishings. With production of their mid-century-modern furnishings, the company continued to grow and expand until in 1987 it was acquired by Interco, Inc. But, for 75 years the Lane family of Altavista, Virginia ran the business with Edwards son, Bernard Bell (B.B.) Lane, being at the helm at the end. Lane is still to this day a leading U. S. furniture manufacturer. High-quality manufacturer, impeccable quality, and a striking style that you can only find in a vintage Lane piece. This Tower Suite Collection full/queen headboard is just too exquisite to let go. You simply MUST have it… so, just do it… make it YOURS!!! It is going to add just the right splash of mid-century modern magnificence to any bedroom in your home where you will be sure to sleep in stylish splendor. Kipp Stewart, a celebrated American designer, born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania did not lead a charmed childhood. Sent to California to live with distant relatives at a young age, you could call him a self-made man. His furniture designing fate was sealed at 15 when hitchhiking to school he passed a storefront shop and studio on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles with pencil industrial drawings in the windows and fell in love with them. Kipp worked hard, turning down a track and field scholarship at USC and instead enrolled at Chouinard Art Institute in the late 1940s. Again, he worked very hard days and nights becoming a renowned artist, architect, and award-winning designer. He currently resides in Carmel, California and is still painting. Alexander Stewart Orton MacDougall was born in the late 1920s in Pasadena and grew up in a Green and Green house which he credits for his fascination and love of design. Judged early with a learning disability which he obviously overcame, Stewart attended Chouinard Art Institute after a short time in the Navy. He then went to work for Victor Gruen and Associates where he met his mentor Rudolf Baumfeld who had studied under Le Courbusier...

  • Antique Victorian Walnut and Burl Walnut Tall Lincoln Style Full Size Bed
    Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous antique Victorian tall Lincoln style full size bed in solid walnut and walnut burl with footboard and side rails. It is in wonderful original vintage condition. That does not mean it is without beautiful age patina of marks and distressing from over 100 years of use. The very top of the carved crown on the headboard had cracked and broken away and been lost over the years. But one of our staff artisans has hand carved a replacement. It is spectacular. There is also some new bracing to the back of the headboard to help with stability. Please see photos, circa mid-late 19th century. When I was a teenager this high Victorian style of bed is what my mom (a very talented interior designer) put in my bedroom (previously I had a white and pink frilly canopy bed my dad made me) and it remained in her home long after I left. In my room it was paired with the matching Victorian dresser and washstand as nightstand. Beautiful. Fast forward a few years and I installed that very same high Victorian walnut bed in my 8-year-old only granddaughter’s bedroom. But this time I paired it with Industrial stainless-steel vintage hospital nightstands...
