Hildegarde Hamilton (Florida, Virginia 1898-1970) Oil on canvas painting of a Dominican townscape Frame: 17.75" X 14.25" Image: 12" X 8.5" Hildegarde Hume Hamilton (1898 - 1970) was active/lived in Florida, Virginia. He is known for Impressionist buildings in landscape and coastal view painting, illustration. Hildegard Hume Hamilton was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1898. After her education there, and brief training at the age of six in art schools in Venice, Italy, while on a European sojourn with her father, she studied fine art at the Académie Julian, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Grande Chaumière in Paris, France, during the 1920s and 1930s. Back in the United States, Hamilton studied for a short time at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, the Cincinnati Art Academy and under the tutelage of the landscape and maritime painter Anthony Thieme (1888-1954) in Rockport, Massachusetts. The Ainslie Galleries on Fifth Avenue held an exhibit of Hamilton’s French Alpine Scenes to much acclaim. Hamilton exhibited in venues throughout the city and sold as many as 300 landscapes. In 1927, Vice President Charles Gates Dawes acquired one of Hamilton’s paintings following her one person exhibit at the Women’s National Party Headquarters in Washington D.C. In the autumn of 1928, an exhibition of her landscapes and cityscapes at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune in Paris was widely and positively reviewed. In 1929, she became the first American woman to exhibit at Philip Dillon’s club – L’Artistique, in Provence. She also contributed to the Salon des Artistes Independants in Paris. In 1930, Hamilton exhibited at the Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. and in New York at the Grand Central Palace, American Art Association-Anderson Galleries on 57th Street, and the Huntington Bay and Yacht Clubs. During this period, the artist resided at 9 Gramercy Park in New York City. The picturesque neighborhood inspired Hamilton’s painting entitled 4 Gramercy Park, Mayor Harper’s House, Manhattan. C. 1930. The oil painting captures the red brick façade and intricate cast iron embellishments of 4 Gramercy Park, the former home of publisher and New York City Mayor James Harper...

Bomber and Buckeroos by Till Goodan, Westward Ho Company

Bomber and Buckeroos by Till Goodan, Westward Ho Company

Located in Phoenix, AZ

Bomber And Buckeroos ca. 1939 Till Goodan Offset Lithograph PRINTS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. PRINTS MAY HAVE SMALL FLAW ALONG EDGE OF PAPER, DOES NOT EFFECT THE PRINT IMAGE All the prints are 26 x 31 inches, Mustang Peeler, Bombers and Buckaroos, The stranger, Guardians of the Range and Range Baby. Note that “The Mustang Runner” is 3 inches shorter in height, 23 x 31 inches The print by Till Goodan was originally a painting and reproduced by the Westward Ho company as a set. Westward Ho produced the most sought after Western dinnerware ever made. The most popular pattern was the Rodeo pattern by Till Goodan. He Illustrated and branded many accessories sold by the Westward Ho Company. Tillman Parker Goodan 1896-1958 To the casual observer his paintings are exciting and colorful. To the scholars of the Western Era they are benchmarks of authenticity. Such is the style of Till Goodan. He was born Tillman Parker Goodan in Eaton, Colorado on March 27, 1896. His father was a true western pioneer, mayor of Eaton, publisher of its first newspaper, and County Commissioner for several years. After moving to California in 1905 and settling on a little farm that bordered the Michel Cattle Ranch, Till spent much of his boyhood with the Michel sons working on their ranch. There he developed his expertise as a calf roper and the skills of a working cowboy. As a young man Till pursued endeavors that would initially callous his emerging artistic hands. He worked for the famous Miller and Lux Ranch in California. He packed mules and ran pack trains into the Sierra Mountains. He broke horses and competed in local rodeos riding saddle broncs and roping calves. And during the quiet hours he would draw pictures of ranch life and the action of the rodeo. People began commenting on his talents as an artist. In 1917 he left the rodeo circuit and turned his full attention to a career in art. He studied with Roger Sterrett, William Paxton, and Dana Bartlett, all highly respected California artists. Till soon became a free-lance commercial artist doing work for Grauman’s Chinese and Lowe’s Theaters, Helms Bakery and Security Bank. He later assumed a position as Art Director for the Richfield Oil Company. However, his first love was still the art of the old west, horses, cowboys, and ranching. So, he left Richfield and gave his full attention to the field of fine arts. He did oil painting, water colors and lithographs. He drew the Gene Autry Comic Books. He illustrated and hand lettered a large collection of stories about famous bucking horses, ranches, horsemen of the world, and western gear. In association with W.C. Wentz, he started producing a complete line of western gift wares, ceramics, bronzes, leather, paper, and fabric. By the 1930′s he was beginning to receive recognition for his western art and by the early 1940s, he and his daughter, Betty, were illustrating comic books for his longtime friend, Gene Autry. Betty was also a world champion cowgirl. Till Goodan designs appeared in virtually every medium. But, the most famous was the four lines of dinnerware produced by Wallace China...

This painting is unframed, canvas on gator board, the price reflects that it is unframed. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career that lasted 17-years. Beginning in 1992, she studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike...

In 1874, Hyneman followed his first cousin Moses Ezekiel, National Academy member, to Europe to study. They first went to Germany and then to France where Hyneman began eight years of study with Leon Bonnat, the French Master. In Paris, the twenty-five year old Hyneman resided in a studio building at 75 Boulevard Clichy, with expatriates Frederic Arthur Bridgeman, Charles Sprague Pearce, Milne Ramsey, and Edwin Blashfield. Hyneman was clearly exposed to the works of these more experienced artists, as well as that of Walter Gay. In 1879, one of Hyneman's genre paintings, entitled "Desdemona", was accepted into the Paris Salon. That painting received favorable reviews both in Europe, and later in Philadlephia where it was exhibited alongside the works of other Philadelphia Artists exhibiting at the Salon that included Thomas Eakins, Pearce, Edward May...

The size is 28.25 x 20 inches. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, has never been framed. About the artist: Charlotte Huntley might have been a renowned graffiti artist – her earliest work consisted of drawing on walls. But fate intervened and she learned to control these urges with a formal education at Scripps College, Chouinard School of Art, and the Los Angeles County Art Institute. These early tendencies reemerged not just in painting, but in other artistic ways as well, to the benefit of community theaters in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago. She spent years as a professional puppeteer and set designer, and developing her own unique watercolor painting style. Charlotte’s use of pointillism. Charlotte Huntley AWS, June Workshop Instructor “Charlotte Huntley has special insights into color and fresh approaches to cliche subject matter. Her work in watercolor is truly unique. Charlotte adapts the Pointillism of Seurat and other post-Impressionists and makes it her own in watercolor. With Pointillism, distinct points of primary colors create the impression of a wide selection of secondary colors. The technique relies on the perceptive ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to mix the color spots into a fuller range of tones. Charlotte truly makes the most of this style of painting. Over her illustrious career, Huntley has been awarded a signature membership in 29 watercolor societies, including the American Watercolor Society, California Watercolor Association, Transparent Watercolor Soc. of America, Northwest Watercolor Society, and Watercolor West. Overall, Charlotte has received 45 Awards in National Exhibitions since 2000 – an impressive achievement This imaginative Watercolor Artist has had over 575 paintings accepted in National Juried Art Exhibitions in 46 states, also Canada and Puerto Rico, with 113 Awards.
