This Nahuala Coop, 100% women farmer produced washed Guatemala heirloom coffee features sweet, clean and bright aromas of hazelnut. The flavor is rich, with notes of chocolate, citrus and roasted nuts, finishing smooth and lingering.
Nearly the entire population of the municipality is made up of ethnic K'iche' Maya who speak the K'iche' language. The population of the township is estimated to be between 50,000 and 85,000 individuals, about 10% of whom live in the head-town. Statistics vary widely because much of the township's territory and several large villages are also claimed by Nahualá' sister township, Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán.
Kalwick’s paintings cover a wide range of subject matter. However, he is best known for his Guatemalan market scenes, Guatemalan figurative work, and portraits. Recent portrait commissions include Harold Hook, retiring CEO of American General Corp.; Reese Jones, international golf course designer; and Paul Merriman, retiring CEO of Hisco Corp.
Kalwick was honored for the second time with a one-man show sponsored by the United States Embassy at the Museo Ixchel in Guatemala City.

Gordon Cook was born in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington where he received his B.F.A in 1950. Cook then went on to study fundamentals and life drawing at The American Academy of Art* in Chicago. The same year he studied intaglio* printmaking with Vera Berdich at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago*. He took graduate courses and continued studying intaglio printmaking under artist Mauricio Lasansky at the State University of Iowa.
In 1951, Cook moved to San Francisco. Soon after his works received the journeyman's card in International Typographical Union, Local 21. He began exhibiting his prints, drawings, and paintings at the Porpoise Gallery in San Francisco. Four years later, Cook became a charter member of the Bay Printmakers Society and exhibited in their annual exhibitions at the Oakland Art Museum for the next five years. His etchings portrayed mainly San Francisco landscapes such as the Golden Gate Park, Diamond Heights, and Lake Merced as well as flowers, especially roses.
He participated in his first weekly drawing group with artist Alvin Light, Manuel Neri, Joan Brown, and William H. Brown. Cook also taught at the San Francisco Art Institute*. His etchings where exhibited in a one-man exhibition at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, in the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts. At this point Cook returned to painting. Barbara and her husband Chuck moved to Fredericksburg in 2005 after living many years in Louisiana, where she taught art at Baton Rouge Lutheran School. Soon after moving home to Texas, she began painting seriously. She has studied with Ian Roberts, Kevin Macpherson, Jill Carver, Lori Putnam, and (of course!) Chuck Mauldin. Barbara’s work has been accepted in several art events, such as the Women Artists of the West National Show, Contemporary Masters Invitational Art Show in Fredericksburg, the Mountain Oyster Club Art Show, the Plein Air Artists Colorado National Juried Art Exhibition, The Museum of Western Art (Kerrville, TX) “The Party” Art Exhibition and Sale, and others.
Her paintings are characterized by color. “I like to emphasize the color that I see, as a creative and emotional response to the landscape.” She works with a limited palette, using a small number of pigments to mix colors, which results in beautiful color harmony.
Barbara has focused her attention on the Texas landscape, especially on prickly pear cactus. Cactus is fun to paint. It has a multitude of interesting colors, which are an expression of the harshness of the environment and the amount of direct sun. In spring the colors are lighter and more mellow, and the flowers of late spring are a vibrant yellow and rose, sometimes orange. She enjoys plein air work, accepting the challenges of color, design, and the environment (critters and weather). Texas abounds with variety and inspiration; there is always another painting just around the corner!

Edward Lee Reichert (1919-2011)
Edward Reichert, architect, designer and artist, is a native Texan who has combined regional, national and international study and practice of the visual art and architecture since 1936. He is a versatile artist and designer, skilled in creating quality landscapes, portraits, architectural, western, religious and varied work in all media. After 36 years of architectural practice based in Houston in which he was involved in the design of more than 400 regional and international projects, he now devotes full time to painting.
Best known of his art works are his designs of stained and faceted art glass which include 100 panels designed for the First United Methodist Church of Houston. In 1983, he wrote and jointly published with the Church, Windows Sharing God’s Caring, an art book with photographs by his wife Elizabeth, illustrating and describing these panels and the historic sanctuary windows.
While attending The University of Texas in Austin he served as art editor of the university publication Architecture, Engineering and Industry (1938-41). After receiving his Bachelor of Architecture Degree and the Alpha Rho Chi Architectural Medal in 1941, he was awarded scholarships for continued studies a M.I.T., Harvard, and Yale. As a Naval Reserve Officer during World II, he authored and illustrated Naval Intelligence publications. He became a Registered Architect in Texas in 1947, AIA member since 1951 and NCARB certified since 1974. He has worked and studied in England, Europe and Canada.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1879 to Nicholas and Katherine Sotter, George William Sotter painted the rivers and mills of that city in his early youth. He apprenticed with several stained-glass studios there prior to becoming a partner in the studio of Horace Rudy in Pittsburgh around 1901. He took leave from the studio and came to Bucks County in 1902, to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts as well as with Edward W. Redfield, the premier painter of the New Hope School. In 1903, he participated in the annual exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Anthony Thieme was born in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam in 1888. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, at the Royal Academy at the Hague, as an apprentice to George Hoecker, a well known stage designer in Düsseldorf, Germany, and to Antonio Mancini, an Italian Impressionist. After completing his studies, Thieme journeyed throughout Europe and South America, working in stage design to support his travels. Thieme first came to the United States in 1917 and initially worked as a set designer and book illustrator first in New York and later in Boston.

Dreamy figurative seascape of two ladies on the beach wading in shallow waters, depicted in a beautiful tonal palette of soft cyan and lavender hues, by Alan David Cours (American, b. 1950). The subtle reflections of the women in the water add a touch of detail to the almost abstracted blend of colors that makes up the water and sky, and tiny sails dot the horizon line to imply space. Cours' background as an abstract artist is apparent in this scene, which is grounded in reality only by use of the most important details. The artist allows the mood of the colors to come to the forefront, and any unnecessary details, like the faces of the women or delineation of successive waves in the water, to fall away.

Cours, Alan David (American, b. 1950) was born in Ohio in 1950. He remained there until 1972, when he graduated from Kenyon College with Highest Honors in art. In 1974, Cours moved to New York to accept a grant from the Whitney Museum of American Art. He subsequently obtained an M.F.A. in painting from Hunter College in New York.
Originally trained as an abstract artist, Cours became interested in American Impressionism after viewing the work of A. Gisson. He became an informal apprenticeship with Gisson which lasted over ten years. Today, Cours’ style bears evidence of Gisson’s influence but has a delicate touch which is uniquely suited to his vision of our world. He is deeply interested in exploring the power of color to evoke light and mood. His subjects are landscapes, beach scenes, florals, architectural scenes, nudes, and still life.
The work of A. David Cours has been exhibited throughout most of the United States. He has become a very successful artist and his work is in both large and small collections in the United States and abroad.

Edward Lee Reichert (1919-2011)
Edward Reichert, architect, designer and artist, is a native Texan who has combined regional, national and international study and practice of the visual art and architecture since 1936. He is a versatile artist and designer, skilled in creating quality landscapes, portraits, architectural, western, religious and varied work in all media. After 36 years of architectural practice based in Houston in which he was involved in the design of more than 400 regional and international projects, he now devotes full time to painting.
Best known of his art works are his designs of stained and faceted art glass which include 100 panels designed for the First United Methodist Church of Houston. In 1983, he wrote and jointly published with the Church, Windows Sharing God’s Caring, an art book with photographs by his wife Elizabeth, illustrating and describing these panels and the historic sanctuary windows.
While attending The University of Texas in Austin he served as art editor of the university publication Architecture, Engineering and Industry (1938-41). After receiving his Bachelor of Architecture Degree and the Alpha Rho Chi Architectural Medal in 1941, he was awarded scholarships for continued studies a M.I.T., Harvard, and Yale. As a Naval Reserve Officer during World II, he authored and illustrated Naval Intelligence publications. He became a Registered Architect in Texas in 1947, AIA member since 1951 and NCARB certified since 1974. He has worked and studied in England, Europe and Canada.
