Graham Gillmore Art
Canadian, b. 1963
Following graduation from the Emily Carr School of Art and Design in 1985, Graham Gillmore and fellow grads Douglas Coupland, Angela Grossmann, Derek Root and Atilla Richard Lukacs founded the artistic group Futura Bold. Within a year of showing works in Vancouver, Gillmore and the other members of the group were selected by Scott Watson to present in the famed “Young Romantics” exhibition. This display at the Vancouver Art Gallery launched the careers of five of Canada’s most outstanding young artists.
In 1986, Gillmore moved to New York City where he exhibited his word-play paintings at numerous galleries including the 49th Parallel gallery and the Mary Boone Gallery. Since then, Gillmore has exhibited widely in galleries and museums across the U.S., Canada and Europe, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern and Canada House in London, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, the South Carolina Museum and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. He has been featured in publications such as Canadian Art, W magazine, Art News, ArtForum, L.A. Weekly, C Magazine and the New York Times Magazine.
Gillmore’s work is held in numerous private, corporate and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent in Belgium, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Toronto, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the University of Lethbridge in Alberta and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Painter and printmaker, born in Famagusta, Cyprus, whose family – involved in the restaurant business – settled in London in 1946. He attended Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1960–4, then Royal Academy Schools, 1964–7.
Kiki’s pictures were often on a large scale, figurative, vigorous, using high-pitched and unconventional colours and reflecting his Mediterranean background.
Group exhibitions included Young Contemporaries, Mall Galleries, 1966; British Painting ’74, Hayward Gallery, 1974; and Viriamu Jones Gallery, University College, Cardiff, 1986.
Later solo shows included Art Space Gallery, from 1991, and SeaChange Gallery, Great Yarmouth, 2002, Frames of Norwich, The Saint Giles Street Gallery and Chappel Galleries, Chappel, both 2003, and The Warehouse, Lowestoft, 2005.
Saatchi Collection holds his work.

"My recent work now becomes more involved with cloud cover and its effect on light and colour through both its translucent and opaque properties. Clouds are visible masses of water droplets or frozen ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. They have the ability to refract and reflect, creating an ever changing perception of light which inspires my use of colour.
I am constantly referring to the paradox of a cloud’s perceived weight and its fragility and the relationship between the cool and warm colours created by it. I have become increasingly interested in catching the moment when heavy overcast clears to reveal clear blue sky, a cool colour that complements the warmth it brings. While the most obvious manifestation of light refraction at this time would occur in the form of a rainbow, I will be concerned with accentuating the infinite, more subtle effects.
I find myself inspired increasingly by the works of Turner, who created ephemeral atmospheric effects using large washes of liquid paint. Other influences include Henry Matisse, Francis Cadell...
