Antique French Louis XVI Style Bookcase, or if you prefer, Antique French Ebonized Bibliotheque made from solid mahogany over 100-years ago to a very high standard. We have had our share of antique, or supposed to be Antique French mahogany Louis XVI style bookcases, however most tend to be constructed during the 1950’s. This Antique French Ebonized Bookcase is the real deal and is a genuine antique, which our inhouse Old Plank restoration department beautifully restored, with an old school ebonized finish. The French Louis XVI bookcase was completely disassembled (makes for easy ingress and egress), hand-stripped to the bare mahogany wood, restored as necessary and refinished in this deep black Napoleon III style ebonized and brass exterior. Splendid early 19th century Biedermeier secretaire/ secretary desk from the renowed period in Vienna/ Austria around 1820/25. A spectacular, early example of a Biedermeier secretary which has been venereed with finest mirror-matched nutwood, showing an extraordinary grain - just see how elegantly the grain pattern runs down from the top to the base without any visible interuption. This perfect sized Biedermeier secretaire impresses with its cambered worked doors, a drawer on the top and a fold-down writing surface. Influenced by the previous empire epoch, this superb, antique secretary is adorned by two beautifully worked full columns. When you fold down the lockable writing surface, the amazing designed interior opens up to the viewer´s eye: 9 small drawers and another large one on top, architecturally structured with ebonized column decoration and the still original mirror (unfortunately cracked - see picture#18) in the back. Artfully worked brass applications with lion heads finalize the spectacular look. Traditionally hand polished with ruby shellac, which gives the surface this lovely slight red brown tone, this breathtaking early Biedermeier secretary...

In an era when we get our beverages out of pull-top cans right from the fridge, on offer is an opportunity for experiencing a little grandeur. This classic 19th-century French Cave à Liqueur (liquor cellar) dates from the Napoleon III period (circa 1850–1870). Designed to elegantly present after-dinner cordials or liqueurs, such portable miniature bars were highly prestigious items produced for wealthy households during France's Second Empire. The piece features a distinct serpentine front, a hallmark of fine French cabinetry from this era. The main body showcases an ebonized (blackened) finish bordered by richly figured contrasting wood veneers, likely rosewood or kingwood. The top and front are centered by highly intricate, symmetrical Boulle-style marquetry medallions. These medallions seamlessly combine engraved brass scrollwork with iridescent mother-of-pearl and natural shell inserts. Imagine the mother of pearl inlay in the candlelight. A brass escutcheon on the front guards a physical lock mechanism, historically used to keep valuable spirits safe from household staff. When unlatched, the hinged top swings up to the back while the two side panels fan outward completely for an impressive presentation.
