MCM Desk by Robert John Co. Walnut & White Painted Steel Frame & Laminate Top

By Knoll

Located in Topeka, KS

Handsome Mid-Century Modern smaller writing desk by the Robert John Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania featuring walnut cabinet with white painted steel frame and white laminate top. This is from their Steelwood collection. It desk is in wonderful restored condition. We have sanded and put a new finish on the walnut and the metal frame. The laminate has been cleaned and polished. There are still signs of age but nothing major. Please see photos, circa 1960s. This wonderful Mid-Century Modern smaller size office desk has been a real puzzle. It has taken much research and I’m still not sure I know about the Robert John Co. from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their tag says Makers of Contemporary Furniture and that this desk is. When I google them all I come up with is other pieces of furniture being offered that were made by them, but I can’t find any history on the company. And, several listings say the piece was designed by Robert John but made by Knoll. I have not found supporting evidence of that statement! No matter. This is a fabulous desk with a walnut box cabinet containing three equal size drawers that are adorned with cool black and white handles. It is surrounded by a white painted metal frame which accents the walnut wonderfully and a white laminate work surface. This was originally in an architect’s office. I can see why. It has awesome lines and is beautifully designed. This desk is just the right size for a home office. Not as big as an executive desk but a little bigger than a writing desk. Fabulous! Fabulous style! Fabulous size! Fabulous condition! Make it yours. Attn: Since originally writing this I have obtained three vintage brochures...

Pair Rudd Intl Danish Oak Lounge Chairs by Thygesen & Sorensen for Magnus Olesen

By Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sorensen, Magnus Olesen

Located in Topeka, KS

Fabulous Danish Modern pair of black painted blonde oak bentwood lounge chairs upholstered in purple fabric designed by Rud Thygesen & Johnny Sorensen, made by Magnus Olesen, distributed by Rudd International Furniture of Denmark. Circa, Late 20th Century. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. The frames of these chairs had some flaws that were best repaired and covered so we chose to paint the original light oak and deep beautiful black. Original upholstery is in fabulous condition. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 20th Century. NOTE A: We do have listings here as well for a single chair or a set of all 5 chairs just in case that makes it easier, and there is a little price break that way. NOTE B: The chair in the photo is an example. We will send you photos of the exact chair/chairs you will be getting prior to shipping. What a pretty pair of purple chairs!!! And they bear QUITE the reputation!! This is a wonderful pair of Danish or Scandinavian Modern lounge chairs designed by the elite Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sorensen for Magnus Olesen and distributed by Rudd International Furniture of Denmark. They are comprised of gorgeous black painted oak frames with flared out bentwood arms and straight legs that are actually one piece and they feature front and back stretchers which hold the molded seat giving it a floating illusion. AWESOME!! The seat and backs are upholstered in a wonderful purple fabric, and they exude a unique organic Danish Modern feel. Their ergonomically sculpted and designed seats are both alluring in style and ridiculously comfortable! We can easily see these lounge chairs in an Organic or Danish Modern setting, but they will look equally as beautiful in your industrial loft or in a modern country style setting. They would also be wonderful extra seating in your living room or in a game or theater room! And if you are outfitting a commercial office…these would be perfect! Wherever you use them, these fabulous purple lounge chairs...

Pair Hollywood Regency Gilded Plaster Large Figural Lamps Boy w Jug Style Marbro
Pair Hollywood Regency Gilded Plaster Large Figural Lamps Boy w Jug Style Marbro

Pair Hollywood Regency Gilded Plaster Large Figural Lamps Boy w Jug Style Marbro

By The Marbro Lamp Company

Located in Topeka, KS

Fabulous pair of midcentury Hollywood Regency hand gilded gold plaster large scale figural lamps boy with drinking jug and original slightly tapered gold leafed or gilded drum shades in the style of Marbro Lamp Company. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Both have been rewired with new cords and sockets. The base of one lamp has been patched, repaired, and re-gold leafed. The shades are a bit age worn with some creases, dents, & tears, but still look so fabulous on these lamps we had to leave them. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, midcentury. Just two young boys, probably best friends, or brothers, hanging out in the hot summer sun sipping on a jug of… (well, we can’t be EXACTLY sure what they’re sipping on, but we’re going with water!) Although, they are both missing one shoe so who knows? Ha-ha… Just kidding, these boys are well-behaved!! This is a fantastic pair of hand gilded plaster figural lamps of a boy drinking from a water jug in the style of Marbro. One lamp actually has “O. Art Co” carved into the base but throughout extensive research we were unable to find any information about them; however, we have seen identical lamps marked Marbro, though ours are not marked as such. Either way, they are FABULOUS!!! And as similar as they are, we have found a few slight differences and since we know they were made from a mold we think maybe they each had a different individual artist that gave them their finishing touches. If you look closely one boy has something coming from the spout of his jug and the other does not, the rocks or gravel on the ground of one base is a bit raised and the other is flatter, the drinking jug details differ, and the pant legs are slightly different. And those are just a few what we have found. And as fabulous as the lamps are, we also ADORE the original aged gold leaf slightly tapered drum shades!! They are slightly different in color as one has a bit darker hue and silver inner shade, and the other inner shade is gold. They definitely have an aged all over patina, both on the bodies of the lamps and the shades, which we think is what makes them even more wonderful! These lamps are hand gilded, and the boy alone stands at 24 inches, so they are definitely large scale! Almost like having a couple of actual toddlers around! But not really… these guys are much quieter and won’t be making a mess in whatever room you leave them! LOL! These incredible lamps certainly bear a whimsical aura, and they are ready to fill your home with joy, character, and an Ambience full of vintage Hollywood Regency awesome-ness! The Marbro Lamp Company was established in 1934, shortly after World War II by Morris Markoff and his brother Elliot in Los Angeles, California. They were one of the finest lamp producers during the mid-1900s and mainly sold in a handful of shops. Marbro lamps were one of a kind and some took up to ninety days to complete. They were occasionally made from sculptures customers would bring to the shop and others from vases and objects d’art from all over the world. They employed highly skilled wood turners and lamp shade makers. They would make occasional sculptures and decorative objects, but they were best known for their creative and high-quality table lamps. The Masco Corporation acquired Marbro Lamp Company in 1987 and their Los Angeles plant closed its doors in 1990. This perfectly imperfect pair of hand gilded figural boy lamps...

Simple, classic, and timeless!! This is a GORGEOUS rosewood square occasional or end table by Knud Joos for Jason Mobler. Just take another look at the FABULOUS woodgrain on the SOLID rosewood tabletop!! It is stamped under the tabletop however… the black ink stamp has faded and is barely noticeable. Its minimalist design is sleek, sophisticated, and absolutely STUNNING!! The quintessential Scandinavian Modern style is sure to be a focal point in any room of your home. Black Torsion Chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Ki Set of Eight

By KI Krueger International, Giancarlo Piretti

Located in Topeka, KS

Excellent set of eight black Torsion dining chairs designed by Giancarlo Piretti for KI. There are seven arm chairs and one side chair. They are in wonderful vintage condition with minor wear that you would expect with age. Please see photos, circa 1995. In 1997 Giancarlo Piretti received an award for his Torsion seating collection. These chairs are part of that collection. Designed and made initially and primarily for commercial purpose they are extremely comfortable and flexible. They are lightweight and stackable. This set has an attractive textured high impact black plastic seat, back, and arms on chrome legs. No one expects this chair have the comfort it provides. The back flexes. This flex is achieved with the torsion mechanism which creates gradually increasing resistance. They were designed for comfort during long meetings or lectures. But, that makes them perfect for long dinners with lots of conversation. Or, family night with puzzles, cards, and games. The designer, Giancarlo Piretti, was born in Bologna Italy in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He has won numerous awards and has items in many museums including MoMA New York. He still lives and works in Bologna with is son, designer Alessandro Piretti. KI was founded in 1941 as Krueger Metal Products, Inc. in Aurora, Illinois. Being innovative by finding ways to use scrap metal...

5 Knoll MCM Bentwood 1300 Series Dining Chairs Maroon & Black by Bill Stephens

By Knoll, Bill Stephens

Located in Topeka, KS

Wonderful vintage MCM or Mid-Century Modern bentwood 1300 Series dining armchairs with original maroon hopsacking upholstery and newly ebonized frames by Bill Stephens for Knoll set of 5. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Two chairs have been reglued and two chairs have a different weave in the fabric. Fabric has been shampooed and the wood frames have been restored with a black finish; but they still retain a few age-appropriate nicks and dings. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1961-1969. Move over Marvel… We have the real FANTASTIC FIVE!!! This is a GORGEOUS set of five 1300 Series bentwood chairs by famed designer Bill Stephens for Knoll!! The 1300 Series chairs were designed by Bill Stephens in 1967 and featured a bentwood frame supporting a molded plastic seat. This particular set of 5 frames is comprised of a fabulous bent plywood with a new black dyed finish. Three of the molded plastic seats are upholstered in a maroon hopsacking upholstery (we believe these to have been reupholstered) and two with a maroon fabric but with a different weave. They’re FABULOUS! They are circa 1961-1969 labeled with Knoll Associates, Inc., 320 Park Avenue tags. Use them at your dining table and enjoy a comfortable, long leisurely dinner with family and friends! Or, they would be wonderful at a game table, breakfast nook, around a conference table at the office, or as convenient and stylish extra seating in any room. Wherever you choose to use them, be ready for one of the most ergonomically comfortable chairs you have ever experienced. Bill Stephens born 1932 in Pennsylvania and graduated from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art. He began his career with Knoll as an assistant prototype builder in 1960 for their Design and Development Group. After working up the ranks he became its director in 1971. He spear-headed and worked on the creation and development of many projects and products during his time as director including several where he was the principal designer. His greatest were his part in the Petitt chair which was not only beautiful but an achievement in technology and construction; his own 1300 Series or Stephens Chair which was originally designed for the student center at the Yale School of Architecture and remained in production at Knoll until 1988; and his contribution in the first wood landscape systems created along with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill to be used in their Weyerhaeuser headquarters project. Stephens passed in 2007. Ergonomic comfort, superb style, and an iconic designer and manufacturer! This set of five Knoll Bill Stephens’ 1300 Series...

Well, this is DEFINITELY the right time AND the right light to make your home feel extraordinary!! We have a fabulous table lamp by elite manufacturer Frederick Cooper to offer to you. It is large scale and comprised of a hand hammered copper urn or jug shaped body, a round black painted wood base, hand forged hammered copper and iron double handles, and a knob shaped brass finial. And it is topped with a stunning black coolie shade with an inner shade that has a black and metallic gold modeled finish. It almost gives off a bronze hue…It’s just GORGEOUS!! This table lamp is Moorish style, but it leans a bit Traditional as well. We think it will blend in beautifully in any room that needs just the right amount of elegant ambience. It’s going to be lovely on a side or end table in your sitting room, on a sofa table in your living room, or on an accent table in your bedroom. Frederick Cooper, an artist from Chicago established a studio to create gorgeous sculptures and watercolor paintings in 1923. He was also drawn to the still fairly new invention of lamps. Mixing such materials as brass, fabric, glass, and wood, he created exquisitely designed lamps that complimented the quick innovations in American architecture. The heritage continues today. They use fine materials such as brass, bronze, copper, nickel, marble, jade, and alabaster. They also create art glazed ceramics, hand decorated porcelains, and crystals. They refer to their designs and creations as “illuminated art.” Including design collaborations with Larry Laslo, Maria Buatta, Alexander Julian...
