About the Item

Angelo Canevari’s Lady Walking Her Dog on a Windy Day is a compelling exploration of movement and form using polyethylene. The artist transforms this unconventional material into ghostly figures, evoking a sense of both playfulness and fragility. The swirling shapes and transparent textures give the impression of a windy day, where the figures dissolve into the air, yet are anchored by their striking red eyes. This surreal narrative reimagines a simple moment, where a walk turns into a windswept spectacle, embodying Canevari’s ability to create a unique tension between the natural and the ephemeral. Drawing from the tradition of Arte Povera, Canevari uses humble materials to create works that transcend their physical properties. The transparency of the polyethylene allows the figures to exist somewhere between presence and absence, offering a thoughtful commentary on the fleeting nature of everyday life. Perfect for collectors interested in contemporary art that blends material experimentation with narrative depth, Lady Walking Her Dog on a Windy Day is a distinctive piece that will enrich any collection with its ethereal beauty and innovative use of material. This artwork is part of a limited number of pieces that the artist created at the end of his life. It has been featured in a book written by renowned writer Andrea Camilleri. Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor who comes from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins. Head of a Woman - Surrealist Drawing, Transparent Art, Contemporary Italian Art
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
Angelo Canevari’s Head of a Woman is a 25 x 20 inch surrealist drawing made with melted polyethylene. Canevari's work is often inspired by classical themes and myths. The mythology is often re-visited through his personal memories giving shape to figures that are a combination of historical mythical characters and the imagery of his innermost self. This Head of a Woman is the perfect syncretism of this creative process: maybe the head of an ancient Mother Goddess or just a minimalistic representation of a character from Canevari's memories. The melted polyethylene used to draw the figure gives it a crystal sculptural quality of surrealistic appearance. Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor who comes from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. A Place to Hide - Surrealist Figurative Painting
By Parris Jaru
Located in New York, NY
Parris Jaru's A Place to Hide is a 9 x 12 inches oil painting representing surrealist animals. The primary color is a bright yellow and blue. A glittering paint defines the surface of the canvas. Jaru creates colors from plant-based pigments that Jaru collects during his long exploratory trips through India. The imagery is very playful, presenting surrealist animals drawn with the simplification of forms of some faux-naive art and some graffiti and street artworks. NY-born Parris Jaru comes from a Jamaican, Blackfoot Nation, and Arawak Nation background from both his parents. His work is informed by the vivid colors and imagery experienced in his childhood years spent in the coastal town of St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. His exploratory journeys in India enriched his work with a sensibility to natural plant-based pigments that he grinds with oils for his paintings. In his Brooklyn studio, Jaru brings all these cultural inspirations together. His entire body of work is informed by an intentional childlike, faux-naïve style, constantly shifting between figurative and abstraction. Even though at times, Jaru has been working on somber and entirely figure-free paintings, most of his work is defined by poignantly colored and playful surrealistic figures. Jaru often draws his figures with a continuous line emerging from a thick impasto of paint made with powders of Sea Algae, Hibiscus, Gymnema Sylvestre, and Turmeric. A Stroll Through the Village, Two Figures By. Theo Tobiasse (Israeli, French, 1927-2012) Signed Lower Left Unframed: 40" x 27.5" Framed: 55.5" x 42.25" Théo Tobiasse came from a Lithuanian-Jewish immigrant family who moved to Paris in 1931 for economic reasons. Here Tobiasse completed an apprenticeship at the École des Arts Décoratifs, which was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. The family lived hidden in the French metropolis for over two years without ever leaving the small apartment or even lighting it up. The time was spent reading, drawing and playing chess, and Tobiasse built up a huge pool of drawings from which he could later draw. After the end of the war, he worked as a graphic designer for the Hermès company...
