About the Item

Swiss artist Fredi Gertsch creates lively colorful pop-folk art paintings with one inexhaustible element: the Emmentaler cow. Humor and optimism are essential traits of the artist: "The smiles of the viewers, the joys of the gallery visitor is the desired award for me." Gertsch's imagination propagates hills and valleys of colorful cows. Each of his paintings contains a different characteristic approach; combining colors, collages, and textures that invite humor, delight, and happiness. This colorful 12-inch square painting is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the side. Convenient local Los Angeles shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse His first major exhibition as a freelance artist was in Hamburg, Germany. Since then numerous cows, calves, and bulls of the Swiss Emmental valley, where Fredi Gertsch has been living for over 35 years, graze in the cool apartments of city dwellers and countryside homes in Europe, North and South America as well as Asia. Each cow painting from Gertsch is able to enjoy environments beyond that of the pasture. “Lolita” has been adopted by an Indian family living in New York and today she mischievously enjoys the view from a skyscraper in Brooklyn. “Fleurette” has made it into the Swiss Alps, and “VoguLisi” flew to Texas to experience the vast expanse of land. Gertsch says “Because of my worldwide collectors, my cattle are the happiest Emmentaler cows - hardly born, they stagger onto the biggest pastures in the world". His collectors all agree "It must be a kind person who paints such lovable cows.” Many of Gertsch’s paintings have traveled halfway around the world, decorating modern apartments, holiday homes, medical practices, hotels, and public buildings. His cows can be found in Singapore, Hong Kong, Zurich, New York, Texas, Berne, Munich and Berlin, Sydney, Oslo, Hamburg, and Salzburg, from the Emme Valley all the way to sunny Los Angeles. By Joseph Broghammer
Located in Kansas City, MO
Due to the current situation related to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, our gallery will donate 10% of our commission from this sale to the Kansas City Artists Coalition, which has been supporting local Kansas City Artists for the past 40 years. The Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC), is a non-profit, artist-centered, artist-run alternative space, supporting artists at every level in their career through exhibitions, continuing education and artist studios. Artist: Joseph Broghammer Title: “SRI” Materials : Chalk pastel and pencil on Arches Paper Date : 2018 Dimensions : 19 x 21 in. Omaha based artist Joseph Broghammer is as much of a storyteller as he is an artist. His one-of-a-kind pastel drawings in “Animals” are chronicles of his life. The creatures Broghammer creates are vehicles to uncover the varying characteristics of the artist’s personal identity. Hence, Broghammer’s “Animals” translates as a flowing stream of consciousness. The different birds and livestock staring back at the viewer are ornamented with iconographic symbols – small surprises along the way. These trinkets are keys to understanding the stories Broghammer is sharing. Broghammer began mastering his “dry painting” technique during his B.F.A. in Visual Art at the University of South Dakota. He graduated in 1986 and a year later went on to study his M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin. In 2009, he studied at Creative Capital in Omaha, Nebraska. As storytellers often do, Broghammer later went on to become an educator himself, teaching at WhyArts? and becoming an Artist Assistant at Vera Mercer in Omaha – both of which he still practices at today. It’s apparent that Broghammer’s work has resonated with so many people around the world. Only a few years after his formal education, he began exhibiting his work through various International group shows in Italy, Germany, Holland, Mexico, and even Kansas City. Although Broghammer’s portraits depict downy creatures, his work is very much about the human experience. They are honest and full of life, evoking a sincere exchange between artist and viewer. “Animals” is for the animal lovers, students, teachers, collectors, writers, the young or old, and art historians alike.
