About the Item
Poly-Mer is a light sculpture art piece which repurposes the plastic trays that contact lenses are packaged in, and layers them into a shingled translucent surface. The material surface formed by these trays diffuses the glowing light of a low-resolution grid of LEDs, which are animated by a video loop of ocean waves. By bringing plastic and water together in this way, Poly-Mer aims to remind us of the perils of plastic ocean pollution.

Justin Lui is an artist pursuing responsive media in the physical world, exploring the intersections between media art and architecture, in order to create objects, spaces and surfaces which are dynamic and intelligent.
This pursuit is catalyzed by a desire to create a sense of bodily engagement between participant and installation space; so that the body’s sensory mechanisms and its physical location can be utilized to create mutual relationships between people and space. The result can be phenomenological (by evoking certain emotions or internal states of being) and can also be behavioral (how a space can dynamically change and respond when subjected to patterns of human use).
While media artists often create work that resides within the given boundaries of screens (small and large), Justin usually opts to explode and re-materialize visual content beyond the constraints of conventional screens. In a world where high resolution imagery has become commonplace, his work often uses the subtlety of lower-res visual content. The materials he uses include LEDs, re- purposed plastic containers, fiber-optic threads, and code.
Justin’s formal training was in architecture, and he includes UX (user experience) design, DJing and music production in his mix of skills. Currently based in Los Angeles, Justin was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and has previously worked in New York City, Toronto, and Berlin.
Justin is a graduate of the UCLA Design Media Arts MFA program, and also holds an M.Arch II degree from UCLA Architecture and Urban Design, as well as a B.Arch degree from the Carleton University School of Architecture.

Adversity
By Kristofer LAMEY
Located in Atlanta, GA
Born and raised in Atlanta, Kristofer Laméy has brought much to the southeastern art and design table.
From debuting his unique design perspective in the 2007 ICFF in New York City and showcasing his Art at Aqua during the 2008 Art Basel in Miami, to his solo Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) exhibit titled “Serving Form” in 2010, Kristofer is best known for his one-off commissioned sculptural art forms. His work has found a place in homes and collections across the globe.
One of his most ambitious design challenges was solving a decades-long problem in the aviation industry: How to more efficiently design and install jet aircraft interiors. This was the birth of AIMS.
Kristofer’s work straddles a fine line that resides between art and design. Many, lost within the engineering of his creations, like to push his work out of the category of art and into the realm of design. This line is the fulcrum that leverages his work into a playing field of his own, and he is proud of that. Those looking for solutions in the marketplace that are in need of an outside perspective to differentiate a product benefit from his fresh and creative approach to modern manufacturing.
In April 2020 Kristofer moved his family to the North Georgia mountain...
