About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Sunny Side Down” is a surreal mixed media collage over an asymmetrical digital inkjet photo montage on Yupo paper with blue, green, teal, white, and purple. The abstract image fragments are of the oceanside desert at El Faro Beach in Todos Santos, Baja California Sud, Mexico. DeSalvo's enlarged photographs create a backdrop for collaged images nestled in the surf, dunes, mountains, and sky. Items include black and white images from a vintage textbook, mimeographed text, and fragments of monotypes printed with a Gelli plate on paper memorabilia once belonging to DeSalvo’s late father. DeSalvo regularly incorporates her father's paper memorabilia, such as the text, into her work. The signature is written below the image and signed on the back. The work is dry-mounted onto foam core with a thickness of 0.1875 inches.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
