About the Item
Kimono with Rope Texture - Collagraph Master Plate
Master plate for collagraph printmaking featuring a kimono with rope texture in warm neutral peach tones, by California artist Patricia A. Pearce (American, b. 1948). The organic rope texture combined with the simple geometries of the kimono shape bring a modernist harmony to this minimalist piece. Appears to have been created with a layer of gesso that was then impressed upon to with rope to create texture. It is heavily textured, as it was originally created for use in making collagraph prints.
Unsigned and unframed.
From a collection of the artist's works.
Included is the sleeve that it was stored in. The sleeve has foxing due to age. Collotype: a process for making high-quality prints from a sheet of light-sensitive gelatin exposed photographically to the image without using a screen.
Patricia Pearce is a California artist who attended San Francisco State and UC Irvine and adjunct Professor of Fine Art at the College of San Mateo. Later, she began to work mainly in collagraph and monotype prints creating singular images of kimonos and ribbons in her subtle shifting, subdued pieces are constructed in a three-step process. Awards include Grade Prize, 3rd Biennial Exhibition of Prints, Wakayama Japan; Grant, Peninsula Community Foundation.
