E. Binam
Roosters and Hens in a Barn 19th century E. Binam

Circa 1890

About the Item

Roosters and Hens in a Barn 19th century E. Binam (Belgian? 19th century) Oil on wood panel 8 1/4 x 5 /12 (10 1/4 x 13 1/4 frame) Though little is known about E. Binam, he was clearly an accomplished and sensitive painter. The use of composition, color and light show a painter with expert skills It's quite possible that E. Binam was a pseudonym used by a painter of greater renown. Such habits are not uncommon considering the number of painters who autographed their works of art with various names and signatures. The frame also shows some age. Though difficult to tell if it's the original frame, the frame nevertheless is in good condition and sets off the painting very well.

Antique Dog Painting Collies in Horse Stable w/ Saddle and Blanket, 19th century
Located in SANTA FE, NM
Antique Dog Painting "Collies in Horse Stable with Saddle and Blanket" Auguste Vimar (French 1851-1916) Circa 1900 21 x 17 1/2 (29 x 25 1/2 frame) inches An excellent depiction of collies in the barn awaiting their master. The color and textures are very evocative of an actual stable right down to the hay scattered about. With its original frame, this is quite the statement piece. Auguste Vimar was a French painter, sculptor, designer and illustrator though he is best known for his talents as an illustrator. He illustrated great classics like La Fontaine's Fables or books by his friends, such as L'Arche de Noé by Paul Guigou...

English 19th century portrait of two seated King Charles Cavalier Spaniels dogs
By James Cassie
Located in Woodbury, CT
James Cassie was born at Keithhall near Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, the son of a prosperous tea and spirit merchant. Although briefly a pupil of the artist James Giles, Cassie was largely self-taught. He began his career as a painter of animals and portraits, but on moving to Aberdeen he increasingly turned his attention to local seascapes and coastal scenes, especially at dawn and sunset. He favored these outdoor scenes but continued to paint some domestic subjects and portraits throughout his life. In 1869 he moved to Edinburgh and was elected an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy. Shortly before his death in 1879 he was elected an Academician. This piece is framed in its original frame and the painting is signed lower right and inscribed on the reverse. From the inscription on the reverse, this painting was purchased from an important house sale...
