About the Item
This 24" x 24" acrylic painting on canvas is by Oklahoma artist, Kevin Stark. This painting depicts a red cat figure standing in profile against a light beige background. The cat has a distinctive appearance with bright red coloring, wearing a gray shirt. The cat's face features pointed triangular ears, black sunglasses, whiskers, and a cigarette protruding from its mouth with smoke/ash visible below it. The cat has a tousled grayish hair/fur on top of its head that extends slightly beyond the sunglasses. Its body is simplified and geometric, with four legs ending in red boot-like feet, and a long red tail that curves upward. The painting style is bold and graphic with thick black outlines defining all the shapes.
Born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Kevin Stark has been creating art his entire life. A self-taught artist, his first love was oil painting. He studied the techniques of the old masters, working to teach himself their methods. Stark later majored in art at the University of Oklahoma, where he expanded his interests and honed his skills in a variety of styles and mediums.
