Edith Konrad
5320 - Framed Original Abstract Figurative Artwork

2014

About the Item

Blurring the distinction between figure and abstract settings, Swiss artist Edith Konrad’s spectral forms—human in shape—inhabit muted abstract environments punctuated by vivid bursts of color. In combinations of acrylic on canvas, mixed media, and collage, she studies line, color, texture, and the qualities of adding depth to an artwork. This 21 inch high by 17 inch wide one-of-a-kind artwork is composed of mixed media and canvas on board. This artwork is framed in a modern white wood frame. Size and price include frame. It is wired and ready to hang. The artist signed this abstract figurative painting on the front in the lower right corner. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Edith Konrad has studied in numerous master classes with artists from Germany and Italy. She paints in a variety of techniques and particularly prefers the use acrylic or oil on canvas, collage, and mixed media. In some works traditional mark-marking and Color Field painting techniques are evident, while in others Konrad references the visceral immediacy of cave painting and painting on stone. Her scenes are frequently so obscured by the successive layers of paint that they approach the condition of pure color, light, and shade. In 2007 her art was acquired by the State Museum Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She won the 2009 Palm Art Award, a Certificate of Excellence for outstanding artistic quality and originality of the work. In 2010 she exhibited at the Salon de la Culture at the Louvre in Paris, France. Her artworks have been exhibited internationally, including at many art fairs such as Montreux, Geneva, Salzburg, Rotterdam, Marbella, Porto Ceresio, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Paris. Gazing at Lebanese American artist Sally K's floral portrait is consuming and empowering. Inspired by strong, feminine women, she creates pop-realistic paintings that speak to the energetic female experience; one of individuality and inherent strength in femininity. There are endless floral arrangements capping the mysterious visages of beautiful women, capturing attention through a celebration of floral abstraction and wild, fanciful coloration. Lavish in application and luxurious in composition, Sally K.'s work is inspired by pop art, culture, and fashion. Sally K was born in Ohio following her family’s emigration from Lebanon. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Saudi Arabia, where she stayed until she was 14. Sally attended high school and college in Beirut, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with distinction from the Lebanese American University of Beirut. In 2013, Sally and her family moved back to the United States and she now paints out of her studio in California. The focus of Sally’s portraits is contemporary women. Her style merges characteristics of abstract expressionism with realism and portrait painting to convey not just the beauty of women, but their confidence and strength as well. They are alluring, flirtatious, and demure with an inspiring femininity that Sally describes as the “sensuality, independence, and confidence you see in strong women.” Sally’s portraits of women are intensely personal. “The women I paint are an extension of me, of what I feel, how I process my surroundings, my thoughts, my anger, my pleasure. They’re the confident strong women that I strive to be. Sometimes tough and daring, sometimes shy and reserved, but always self-assured and determined; they represent what captivates me in other women; the qualities I admire, and strengths that I strive to gain.” Sally draws inspiration from photography, pop culture and fashion as well as artists ranging from the pop art of Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock to the gilded florals and figures of Gustav Klimt. "August tune" -- Oil Painting by Alexander Stolin
Located in New Orleans, LA
ALEXANDER STOLIN, born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine (under the former Soviet Socialist Republic), where he received intensive training and a master of fine arts degree in his homeland’s traditional art academies. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1992, met his future wife in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, then married and settled in New Orleans. He maintains a home and studio in Madisonville, Louisiana, and is a significant but understated figure in the New Orleans art community. As art critic D. Eric Bookhardt suggested in 2002, “Stolin is more accomplished than he is famous.” His art, often exhibited in thematic series that incorporate a variety of media, ranges from intimate portraits to large-scale murals (one measuring twelve feet by seventy-two feet). He has worked on a progressively larger scale, most recently designing and painting projects for the Louisiana film industry. Stolin’s technically proficient and complexly layered art reflects a unique fusion of the academic training he received in Kiev and his evolving response to the very different culture, lifestyle, and subject matter he has discovered in New Orleans, Madisonville, and the Gulf South.   Stolin’s Face to Face series of portraits, completed from 2000 to 2002, featured New Orleans artists including Douglas Bourgeois...
