Original advertisement for Cream of Wheat, published 1925. The image features Dan Beard sitting at a campfire talking to Boy Scouts.
The full caption reads: “Dan Beard gives some good advice to men”
The advertisement features Dan Beard, who it hails as a “prophet and sage to a million Boy Scouts.” It features a wise quote from Beard himself: “Watch two things about your mouth - the words that come out of it; the food that goes into it.”
The ad promotes “wise eating,” stressing the importance of a healthy diet for active boys and men. It highlights breakfast as a crucial meal and champions Cream of Wheat as the ideal energizing and nourishing start to the day.
Dan Beard was the founder of the Sons of Daniel Boone, which merged with the Boy Scouts of America when the latter was founded in 1910. A true pioneer, he was a prolific writer and artist whose passion for the outdoors began during his childhood in Ohio.
From the archives of Nabisco, and Kraft Foods, catalogue #344; also stamped #190.
