About the Item

About the Artwork: In Haleh Mashian's mixed media piece, "The Final Stop," five figures are portrayed with a sense weariness as they wait at a bus stop. The artistic style chosen, along with the deliberate use of various acrylic mediums to create depth and translucency in the paint, enhances the work's intended message as a poignant reminder of the inescapable nature of mortality. This horizontal 36 inch high and 60 inch wide figurative mixed media painting on canvas is wired and ready to hang. It is hand signed by the artist on the back of the artwork. This painting is part of the artist's figurative series. When painting with live models, Mashian is at her most free. “I let the brush guide me. To draw from a live human figure is to be totally in the moment, to get lost in their form, light and texture.” As an artist, Mashian revels in what psychologists call the “flow phenomenon,” where you are completely engulfed in the act of creating—unconcerned with perfection or error. “To see and render the human figure heightens my awareness of the moment and living in the present. One cannot simultaneously be thinking of something else and paint or draw the human form.” For over 20+ years, Haleh Mashian’s art has colorfully illustrated her unique, astute view of the world, both real and imagined. As a painter and creative expressionist, Mashian’s abstract works reveal her appreciation of color theory, compositional form, and the study of positive and negative space. Working in mixed media and using a variety of techniques from collage to impasto, a repeated layering and application of paint, Mashian’s dynamic pieces range from smaller artworks that can be arranged together to large-scale paintings. Her large-paneled paintings have been exhibited nationally in Los Angeles, Miami, and other art enclaves and are included in private collections in the United States and abroad. Her creativity extends into other forms as well. Haleh has included fashion design, digital art, and music into her repertoire of boundless expression. She is the Founder and Lead Designer for MASH City, her innovative men’s and womenswear collection. Originally from Iran, she is a longtime resident of Southern California with a Studio in Santa Monica where she lives with her husband and two children.

Untitled, Mixed Media Oil Painting Figures Contemporary Female Artist
By Mil Lubroth
Located in Surfside, FL
This Contemporary female artist overlays stenciled figures using vibrant colors. Some of the figures are rendered with detail while others are left in abstraction. Mil Lubroth (1926-2004) was an American born artist who until her passing lived and worked in Madrid, Spain. Her colorful, semi-abstract paintings, which often combined Jewish, Arab and Christian symbolism, were described as “light and music, subtlety and suggestion, full of energy and joy” by Catherine Coleman, curator at the Reina Sofia Museum. Her annual open studio, held every November, was an important celebration of the Spanish art scene. A Fulbright scholar born Millie Schleifer, Mil Lubroth was influenced by the whimsical work of Paul Klee as well as by Robert Rauschenberg and Cy Twombly. She lived in Paris and then moved with her husband to Madrid where she raised her four children. The richly layered culture of Spain inspired her to weave together Jewish, Islamic and Western influences in her decorative and often mysterious work. She was the first North American Woman to exhibit at Madrid’s Cultural Center and her work also showed in Seville, Granada, Barcelona and New York.
