About the Item

Green and red-toned modern abstract figurative painting by Houston, TX artist David Adickes. The piece carries an interesting story of a character named Tess. She was out one evening for some drinks and fun when a vexing suitor started bothering her. The night ended with the said man missing. What do you think happened? All they say is "don't mess with Tess." The painting depicts two different scenes by swapping the two top panels: a scene with Tess and 10 male figures at the back, and one with only 9 male figures visible. Signed by the artist at the bottom right. Unframed but framing options are available. Dimensions Without Frame: H 21.5 in. x W 36 in. Artist Biography: Born (1927) and raised in Huntsville, TX, David Adickes is an artist whose art and heart are closely aligned with Paris, France. After studying art at the Atelier F. Leger in the late 40s, Adickes burst onto the art scene in Houston and elsewhere in the early 50s and has been a prominent member of Houston’s art community ever since. While his most visible works are his giant sculptures, from the Virtuoso in downtown Houston to the 76-foot Sam Houston in his hometown of Huntsville, David Adickes has for decades produced paintings that have been acclaimed in numerous art exhibitions and galleries, both in the United States and internationally. Moreover, his paintings continue to delight collectors with a distinct blend of classic style, delightful palette, and a touch of whimsy.

Red, Gray, and White Abstract Figurative Contemporary Painting of a Lady
Located in Houston, TX
Red, gray, and white abstract figurative mixed media painting by Houston, TX artist Jim Pirtle. The work depicts a figure of a lady wearing a red and white blouse with a cowboy hat on her head. She sits against a red background with hats and shoes. Unsigned. Framed in a natural wooden frame. Dimensions Without Frame: H 23.5 in x W 19.75 in Artist Biography: Jim Pirtle was born in Houston, TX in 1960. In High School, he was selected "Most Nonconformist." He went to Baylor University in Waco, TX, and received a BA in history but more importantly, was a member of the NoZe Brotherhood. The group was an underground mask-wearing secret society of satirists that through writing, campus interventions, and performance art exposed the hypocrisy of conservative Baptists. After college, he moved to Austin, TX, and got a job as an orderly at the Austin State Hospital. This was a crash course education in the extremes of human behavior. After two years in the locked up insaneness of collecting urine, breaking up fights and mopping up spontaneous miscarriages he jumped to the other extreme, moving back to Houston and becoming a Kindergarten teacher for 10 years ? innocence and hope. During the mid 80's he was becoming an obsessive painter and found the local art community. He moved into an artist warehouse and got his formal art training from Nestor Topchy...

Colorful Light Green and Red Abstract - Acrylic on Canvas by Eric K. Fiazi
Located in Pasadena, CA
Abstraction offers a unique opportunity to delve into the space between the visible and the invisible. Acting as a conduit connecting the tangible and the intangible, it encourages us to explore various interpretations in a dreamlike state. In this abstract oil painting by California resident artist Erik Fiazi, the canvas is full of dynamic, nervous brush gestures, evoking images that might recall a continent or torn fabric. Whether it is the phalanges of a fist ready to burst and rip the canvas or a nation symbolized by colors that could be similar to those of a flag. There are so many possible interpretations. In any case, the work releases a raw and unbridled energy, Charged with a force worthy of a revolution like a raised fist, with its red which invades our entire field of vision, a rebellion underlined by the nervousness of the gestures of application of colors next to each other and also on top of each other, probably applied both with a knife and with a large brush. There is thickness and a lot of density. Abstraction is a challenging genre because, beyond the technique, the magic lies in the ability to penetrate the viewer's heart. By contemplating this work through the prism of allegorical reading, we can discern the echoes of a nation in turmoil: a landscape emptied of its green splendor; in fact, green appears in the minority, invaded by the burning red of destruction and flames. The central block resembles an island adrift in a navy blue sea, evoking isolation and vulnerability after a tumultuous storm. The foam of the waves reminds us of the instability inherent in life. Yet within this chaos lies a profound lesson: while the surface may churn under the unleashing of the elements, the bottom of the ocean remains still, offering a symbolic parallel to the importance of maintaining solid foundations amidst the turbulence of life. Eric Fiazi...
