René Lalonde
Orange Red Zebra Oddity

2013

About the Item

Orange Red Zebra Oddity is an acrylic painting on 30 x 30" canvas, signed 'RENÉ LALONDE' lower left and framed in a contemporary black wood frame. It is difficult to categorize the vibrant, luminous, and delightful work of René Lalonde, an art that he himself referred to as ‘New Modern Art’ and which was rooted in many other traditions from American Modernists like Thomas Hart Benton and Charles Sheeler to the psychedelia of Peter Max and most importantly the infused and magical light of Maxfield Parrish. Lalonde’s world was strongly influenced by his ‘monastery-like’ time in boarding school from the ages of 6 – 12. There, he was forced to imagine the outside world and thus developed a vivid imagination as well as what he described as an ‘inner peace’ that held throughout his life. Additionally, he was profoundly affected by the revolutionary events in the music world of the sixties, beginning with the Beatles and the British Invasion, and evolving into the psychedelic culture of the late sixties and seventies. His mature style, developed throughout the eighties and nineties shows influences from fauvism and surrealism in addition to the artists mentioned above, and yet, Lalonde’s art is always uniquely his own, not belonging to any of these art movements. That unique vision has drawn collectors for decades to artworks that express an indelible ‘je ne sais quoi’ – fascinating, strange, intriguing, and somehow emotionally satisfying. Lalonde gives us odd and enchanting still lifes, intimate interiors, fantastical exteriors and landscapes, and always a masterful blend of vivid colors and unusual shapes. Ordinary objects, landscapes, or architecture through Lalonde’s paintbrush always metamorphosize into extraordinary visions. Welcome to the world of René Lalonde!

Kings of the Renaissance Mohammad Ariyaei Contemporary Iranian art oriental art
By Mohammad Ariyaei
Located in Paris, FR
Acrylic paint on canvas Hand-signed Unique work THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS OF MOHAMMAD ARIYAEI " Gentleness and oriental wisdom follow the supercharged bubbling to which we were accustomed from the previous deliberately art brut exhibition by Mohammad ARIYAEI. The Iranian painter's imagination moves serenely from the wildest frenzy to the meditative calm of great, fabulous stories. The artist then took pleasure in pouring the volcanic torrent of his barbaric figures onto the delicate latticework with which he is accustomed to lining his backgrounds with the patience of an illuminating monk. Already sweetness and paroxysm coexisted. Now gentleness wins. The trained imagination of the painter, yet spontaneously bubbling, by instinct as much as by erudition, has no difficulty in reconnecting with the abundant oriental tradition of the thousand and one nights, which, like a long underground river, resurfaces at the light of his painting. Spring renewal of traditions still alive. Systematic filling of space, a sort of oriental version of the Riches Heures...

Dog Years - Brightly Colored Self Portrait of Artist as a Aqua Colored Dog
By Marcos Raya
Located in Chicago, IL
Raya, like every productive artist, is a collection of actions, utopias and talents. He is an acrylic painter and a muralist; an installation artist and a practitioner of the theory of the fragment as a synthesis of the whole; he is Chicano but his work has no passport; he is an obsessive self-portraitist (I, as the multiplicity locked within the I) and his an advocate of his community (in the fullest sense of the world); his is from Chicago and - being a nation onto himself - is a native of his art education; his yearns for the Tijuana of tomorrow while being a full-fledged inhabitant of the Tijuana of half a century back; he admires high-tech while being a fan of Frida Kahlo. --Carlos Monsivais Marcos Raya Dog Years oil on canvas 17h x 17w in 43.18h x 43.18w cm MSR054 Marcos Raya brings together old and new works in a variety of media that mostly explores the sociological impact of technological change. His paintings, collages and installations present an idiosyncratic hybrid of Mexican folklore...
