Original 1932 aquarelle titled Le Candidat et les Électeurs by F. Robbe

Located in PARIS, FR

A whimsical and pointed piece of political satire, this original 1932 aquarelle titled Le Candidat et les Électeurs ("The Candidate and the Voters") by F. Robbe transforms the political stage into a witty animal allegory. Drawn in expressive black ink and watercolor wash, the scene depicts a parrot—perched high, wearing a top hat, and clutching a rolled-up speech—addressing an eager flock of birds below. With beaks open wide, the ‘electors’ appear to hang on every word of the charismatic, if cartoonish, orator. It's a visual metaphor brimming with irony, capturing the timeless performance of politics: showmanship, repetition, and the crowd’s fervor. Signed “F. Robbe, 32”, this work encapsulates the interwar period’s sharp sense of humor and skepticism toward authority. Its monochrome palette only enhances the theatrical drama and expressive character design, reminiscent of 19th-century French caricature artists like Daumier or Grandville, yet rendered in a distinctly 20th-century modernist spirit. Measuring small in size but large in statement, this is a rare surviving piece of illustrated political commentary. Whether you're drawn to its historical charm, anthropomorphic cleverness, or satirical tone, this little gem remains a delightful reflection on democratic rituals—and their absurdities. A unique acquisition for collectors of early 20th-century illustration, political art, or vintage French ephemera...

1937 original poster by Pierre & Jacques Bellenger for Cycles Favor Motos

By Jacques-Pierre Bellenger

Located in PARIS, FR

This bold and beautifully composed 1937 poster for Cycles Favor Motos is a triumphant celebration of French mechanical excellence. Created by the talented duo Pierre and Jacques Bellenger, it promotes the dual prowess of Favor: a brand equally at home in the realms of bicycles and motorbikes. The central figure—a robust, smiling mechanic—stands out immediately. Rendered in striking Art Deco colors of red and blue, he cradles a bicycle in one hand and a motorcycle in the other as if weighing their virtues, suggesting technical mastery and effortless strength. His confident stance and broad grin echo the poster’s tagline: "De la belle mécanique!" (Beautiful mechanics!) The composition is dynamic yet perfectly balanced: the precision of the machines contrasts with the bold, stylized figure, and the typography is just as commanding. The name FAVOR is set in monumental yellow letters, grounding the design and drawing the viewer’s eye directly to the brand. At the time, Favor was a prestigious manufacturer based in Clermont-Ferrand, known for its high-quality, lightweight racing bicycles and later, for its solid and stylish motorcycles. This poster reflects a moment when mobility, modern engineering, and industrial pride were marketed with vibrant optimism. It’s also a rare early collaboration between both Bellenger brothers, whose graphic work helped define the era’s commercial visual language. Printed by Vasselais in Paris—one of the era’s respected lithographers—this poster exemplifies the best of pre-war French advertising: bold, technically impressive, and infused with a spirit of innovation. Whether you're a collector of vintage cycling memorabilia...

Located in New York, NY

This print was made for the American Abstract Artists Portfolio, 1937. All the images were lithographs made on zinc plates. Usually they were signed or initialed in the image -- on the plate, as this one is. As a group they explored abstraction in the 1930s, while maintaining their individual styles. The plan was to make an edition of 500 portfolios although it seems highly unlikely that this was accomplished. The Whitney Museum of American Art has a set. The dimensions, 12 x 9 1/4 inches, are for the sheet; this work signed and dated in the plate. Ray Kaiser...

Über alles die Liebe - Rare Book illustrated by George Grosz - 1930

By George Grosz

Located in Roma, IT

Über alles die Liebe is an original modern rare book illustrated by George Grosz (Berlin, 1823 - 1959, Berlin) in 1930. Original First Edition. Published by Bruno Cassirer, Berlin. Format: in 4°. The book includes 119 pages with Sixty full page reproductions of drawings. Mint conditions. George Grosz (Berlin, 1823 - 1959, Berlin). By the war’s end in 1918, Grosz had developed an unmistakable graphic style that combined a highly expressive use of line with ferocious social caricature. Out of his wartime experiences and his observations of chaotic postwar Germany grew a series of drawings savagely attacking militarism, war profiteering, the gulf between rich and poor, social decadence, and Nazism. In drawing collections such as The Face of the Ruling Class (1921) and Ecce Homo (1922), Grosz depicts fat Junkers, greedy capitalists, smug bourgeoisie, drinkers, and lechers—as well as hollow-faced factory labourers, the poor, and the unemployed. At this time Grosz belonged to the Berlin Dada art movement, having befriended the German Dadaist brothers Wieland Herzfelde and John Heartfield...

La Colegiata Toro (Romanesque Santa Maria la Mayor/Zamora province Spain)

By John Taylor Arms

Located in New Orleans, LA

John Taylor Arms created this superb architectural image of La Colegiata in 1935 in an edition of 153. It is #12 in his Spanish Churches series and is referenced as Fletcher #284. One of the most characteristic examples of transitional Romanesque architecture in Spain, the church of Santa María la Mayor is inspired by the Cathedral of Zamora, in turn inspired by the Old Cathedral of Salamanca. The tower-dome is usually listed as one of the four most typical in León together with those in the cathedrals of Salamanca, Plasencia and Zamora. The church was begun around 1170, and was finished in the mid-13th century. Two different directors of the work have been identified, according to the different types of stone used (limestone in the old sections, sandstone in the most recent ones), and by the barrel vaults...
