Annie French was part of the Glasgow Girls group of artists and illustrators who worked in a delicate, feminine, and detailed Art Nouveau and Pre-Raphaelite style. This work, "Flora," is masterfully rendered and decorated with sumptuous floral patterns in the most detailed way. It is signed twice in the upper right quadrant. The mat has a hand-painted decorative border. The work presents better in person, and the viewer can marvel at the minute detail. The Video is overexposed and light and not representative of color. Thunderstorm (The Large Poplar II) by Gustav Klimt, Das Werk lifetime collotype

By Gustav Klimt

Located in Chicago, IL

Original collotype created from Gustav Klimt’s Approaching Thunderstorm (The Large Poplar II), painted in 1903. Published and edited by Verlag H.O. Miethke and printed by k.k. Hof- und Staatsdruckerei, Vienna, in an edition of 300. Between 1908 and 1914, H.O. Miethke published Das Werk Gustav Klimts, a folio of collotypes representing Gustav Klimt’s most notable works leading up to 1913. Klimt’s original oil paintings were painstakingly reproduced as collotypes on a handmade, deckled-edge cream wove paper using a complex gravure process overseen by master technicians as well as the artist himself. Each image presented in the folio was assigned its own unique signet, which was designed by Klimt and struck below the image using a technique similar to letterpress. The signet corresponded to a matching signet in the justification page which detailed the piece’s size, location, and owner. Published under the artist’s direct supervision, this series allowed Klimt, who had completely divorced himself from public commissions following the outcry from his University of Vienna paintings, to more effectively present his artworks to institutions and patrons across the world. A testament to the masterful design and printmaking demonstrated by Das Werk Gustav Klimts, Emperor Franz Joseph himself purchased the first copy of the folio. Klimt’s The Swamp...

Circa 1900 original poster by L. Vignères - Cycles Automobiles Gladiator Paris

Located in PARIS, FR

This impressive circa 1900 original poster by L. Vignères promotes the celebrated French manufacturer Gladiator, a company known at the turn of the 20th century for producing bicycles, motorcycles, and early automobiles. The poster reflects the optimism and technological enthusiasm of the Belle Époque, when personal mobility and mechanical innovation captured the public imagination. The striking central image shows a rider astride a rearing horse balanced atop a globe — a powerful allegory suggesting speed, strength, and global ambition. This symbolic imagery connects traditional horsepower with modern mechanical power, effectively positioning Gladiator as a leader in the transition from horse-drawn transport to motorized travel. Stylistically, the poster combines late 19th-century academic illustration with emerging advertising dynamism. The bold typography, dramatic composition, and vivid color contrasts make the image immediately eye-catching, typical of early commercial posters designed for urban display. Today, this poster stands as both a historical document of early automotive culture and a compelling example of Belle Époque advertising art, illustrating how industry, modernity, and artistic creativity converged at the dawn of the motor age. Early 20th-century french propaganda poster : The Stateless… Here is the Enemy!

Located in PARIS, FR

This early 20th-century propaganda poster, titled Les Sans-Patrie… Voilà l’Ennemi! (The Stateless… Here is the Enemy!), is a striking testament to the heated nationalist and anti-republican sentiments that surged in France in the years leading up to World War I. Created by E. Millo and published by Le Petit Patriote, the poster presents an impassioned defense of French patriotism while identifying internal enemies—those deemed to lack allegiance to the nation. At the time of its creation, France was deeply divided between nationalists and republicans, between those who saw France as a Catholic, traditionalist nation and those who pushed for a secular, progressive Republic. The Dreyfus Affair (1894–1906) had left the country bitterly fractured, with intense debates over loyalty, national identity, and military values. This poster embodies the sentiments of right-wing conservatives who viewed the Republic’s secularism, its tolerance of political opposition, and its social reforms as signs of national decay. The target of their ire was the so-called Sans-Patrie—those accused of betraying France by undermining its traditional values. The poster’s dramatic black-and-white illustration is designed to evoke strong patriotic emotions. At its center stands a personification of France, likely inspired by Marianne, the symbolic female figure representing the French Republic. She holds a French flag and a sword, embodying strength and resistance against the perceived enemies of the nation. Surrounding her are figures from different walks of life—workers, mothers, soldiers, and historical figures—suggesting that true French citizens stand together against those who would weaken the country. The bold headline, “Les Sans-Patrie… Voilà l’Ennemi!”, leaves no room for ambiguity. It directly accuses those who lack national loyalty as traitors, rallying "true" French citizens to defend the homeland. The text addresses “Aux Vrais Français” (To True French People), making a direct appeal to patriotic sentiment. It warns readers about anti-national forces, particularly socialists, internationalists, and secularists, who are accused of corrupting French youth, undermining the military, and weakening national unity. Among its claims, the poster states that: French schools are being used to indoctrinate children against patriotism. Military service, a key element of national strength, is under attack by those who wish to weaken France. The nation’s historical heroes and martyrs are being forgotten, replaced by values that do not serve the country’s survival. The final rallying cry at the bottom, “À bas les sans-patrie & Vive la France...

1905 original document Jeu de la Casserole - Société Secrète Freemasonry

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1905 original document titled "Jeu de la Casserole - Société Secrète, Jeu Anti-Maçonnique" offers a unique glimpse into the political and social landscape of early 20th-century France. Produced by the Ligue patriotique des françaises (Patriotic League of French Women), this document reflects the fervent anti-Masonic sentiment that permeated French society during this period. At the heart of the document is the "Jeu de la Casserole" (Casserole Game), which served as a tool for spreading anti-Masonic propaganda and promoting the goals of the Patriotic League. Through caricatures, illustrations, and text, the document seeks to demonize Freemasonry and depict it as a secretive and subversive force undermining the values of the French nation. The imagery and language employed in the document are designed to evoke fear and suspicion towards Freemasons, portraying them as a shadowy cabal exerting undue influence over politics, finance, and culture. The use of symbols such as the Masonic compass...
