About the Item
"UNTITLED (Zig)", 2018, is a color photograph by Sophia Rauch, one of a series originating as digital scans with the artist manipulating materials directly on the glass of the scanner. Using clay, acrylic paint, water and more, the artist constructs the image for the eye of the scanner. In truth she doesn't see what she's making until she's made it – the surface scan and digital file.
"Untitled (Zig)" is an inkjet print on Gloss Photo Paper, and measures 16x11". The print is available in an edition of 20, each signed and numbered by the artist. Combining sculpture, painting and photography in alternatively symbiotic and cannibalistic ways, Sophia Rauch's work examines traditional conceptions of beauty and upends romantic stereotypes of creative production.
Sophia Rauch's work has appeared in group shows across the U.S., including Ground Floor Gallery, Underdonk Gallery, and Fastnet, in Brooklyn, NY; also LaMaMa Gallery, White Columns, Visual Arts Gallery, and Umbrella House, in New York City; also the Whitney Houston Biennial, Julius Cesar, the Hills Esthetic Center, in Chicago, IL; and in Colorado at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and at Posse (private collector). A solo show of her work, "With Your Hands" was presented by Underdonk Gallery, Brooklyn, NY in 2015.
Sophia Rauch received her BFA at the School of Visual Arts in 2008, her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Originally from Berkeley, California, she currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Edition of 5
Colleen Fitzgerald's series, "Stamina," provides new approaches to conventional subjects by utilizing the materials and tools of photography in non-traditional ways. A unique physical process combines aspects of sculpture and photography, subverting the idealized two-dimensional photograph and providing a new entry point to the enduring photographic subjects of natural landscapes, seascapes, and more.
To create the photographs, unexposed large sheets of positive film are cut and bent into three dimensional shapes before being exposed inside a camera outfitted with a custom film holder that accepts the film as a three-dimensional object instead of as a standard, flat sheet. The results on the shaped film can...

Esther Podemski, Color Correction_3, 2014, Digital Pigment Print
By Esther Podemski
Located in Darien, CT
Esther Podemski is an artist working across disciplines. While in post-production on one of her recent films, she discovered that the color correction software program she used could be translated into paintings and works on paper. The new shapes originated as screen grabs from color corrections of individual frames in the post-production computer software. The source for these images comes from film footage frames of a priest on a Florence street...
