STANDING NUDE DARK HAIR is a signed original etching by Raphael Soyer, the renowned Russian-born American realist painter, draftsman, and printmaker. Printed on archival printmaking paper 100% acid free paper. STANDING NUDE DARK HAIR is an informal, realistic rendering of a standing dark haired, full-figure woman, assuming a casual pose looking sideways over her shoulder, her nude figure expressed with simple shading, drawn lines and etched marks. Raphael Soyer is best known for picturing poverty stricken victims of the Great Depression in New York City, also for creating images of everyday urban life and of the nude female body.
Print size - 15 x 11.25 inches, Image size- 9 x 6.5 inches, unframed, excellent condition, hand signed and numbered 9/30 in pencil by Raphael Soyer, from the edition of 30 printed in the late 1970's.
Raphael Soyer (1899 – 1987) painter, lithographer, and teacher, was born on December 15, 1899, in Borisoglebsk, Tombov, Russia and is best known for his compassionate, naturalistic depictions of urban subjects. He was a member of the National Academy of Design, American Academy of Arts and Letters, American Society of Painters, Sculptors and Engravers, Artists Congress, and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Soyer taught at the Art Students League in New York. Working in oil or lithography, he was an American Scene artist who championed realism and his work portrays the daily life of New Yorkers. Historically, Soyer is associated with the social realist artists of the 1930s, whose art championed the cause of social justice.

Raphael Soyer
Raphael Soyer, a Russian-born artist, was best known for his compassionate, naturalistic depictions of urban subjects. His sensitive, penetrating portrayals include a broad range of city dwellers, dancers, shoppers, office workers and fellow artists. Historically, Soyer is associated with the social realist artists of the 1930s, whose art championed the cause of social justice. Soyer was referred to as an American scene painter. He is identified as a Social Realist because of his interest in men and women viewed in contemporary settings which included the streets, subways, salons and artists' studios of New York City. He also wrote several books on his life and art. His brothers Moses and Issac were also notable artists.
